Gameplay was above average. Story was lame. But the core gameplay was a 10/10. |
I barely even remember the game-play and the story.
I just remember that the game was allright and not total shit.
I mean, the game wasn't total crap but it wasn't really anything that I'll remember a couple years from now and be like "wow, that was a really good game" but more like "rage? Yeah, I think I remember it. Was it something like Fallout?".

it does feel like an id game. the shooting mechanics are perfect. like brilliantly perfect. but it doesn't have the level of action a game of this scope should have. They should've done borderlands. Just copy the fuck out of it and keep the driving, shooting mechanics.

I agree with the shooting. The only thing that doesn't sit right with me is when i need to headshot enemies 3 times before they die. That just pissed me off. Got to the second city and i quit there.

Apart from the authority pretty much every enemy was ridiculously easy and boring to fight.
I quit after the blue line mission on the 2nd part of the game, just up and went "why the hell am I wasting my time with this? it's the same fight I've had over and over and over. meh".

Yes, treat them like stupid fanboys with no opinion. Because it's QuakeCon.
Quote: | Everyone in the room knew this was going to be a big story. “You don’t think everyone in the audience knows that ATI released the wrong drivers? Dude, zip it!” |
well, I have a gtx260 and I also got the problem with the streaming textures (zero detected vram iirc)
Quote: |
The problem was that Carmack still likes to work in OpenGL, and Rage “pushes, pushes, pushes,” video cards, according to Willits. “He went right to the edge, and we had those driver issues.” |
Well, push all you want, but those textures are still bullshit. The only thing that looked good was the mountains at a distance

We could have done Doom 3 with Quake 3, and then Doom 4 with modified Quake 3 to Quake to Doom tech, and then Rage 1 with that tech, and then Rage 2 with id Tech 5. We would have had three other games we could have done in the same time frame,” he said. “That’s what everyone else does, do you think Unreal 2, 3, 4 is really that different?” |
What is that retard talking about ?
First generation Unreal had 2 games one single and one multi, second generation had 2003/2004 and Unreal 2, third generation only UT3. Probably only that UT2003 was redundant.
Quote: |
“I’ve said in some talks I was so worried that people would not understand the vehicle-based combat so I talked about it first,” Willits said. “We knew we were doing first-person, we’re id! Of course we’re doing first-person! But [the early talk of vehicles] skewed everyone’s ideas so much we had to play catch up. |
Newsflash : vehicle combat in RAGE is shit. Get it through your thick skull.

Nonono, RAGE is awesome, PC version was flawless at the release, every single problem can be attributed to poor drivers, iD's the best ever

That's what happens when you "push, push push" the drivers

Thanks to Doom 3 BFG and its upcoming source code release, Rage's tools are set to be released very soon as well.

He has apologized before for how long it has taken but he has also said the SDK is out of his control or something like it.
There are people to blame in id (AND Bethesda/Zenimax, obviously they didn't care enough for it to push id to finish it faster) but he's not the one you are looking for, since he's not the one that works on it.
Now if you want to blame him for issues with the engine, yes, that's your man.

I'm not blaming him, just wondered why it took him this long to admit that they (as company) made some horrible decisions

More likely that they're part of what's been holding it back.

My 4870 used to do that and now it's in the videocards cemetery.
Never touched the game since then.
