Really....another dumb company that fell for Game for Windows Live? Looks like they aren't getting my money now unless they have a sale to make up for that crap.

Oh well.

Fell for gfwl ?

I can easily see how using gfwl with 360 ports can make it way easier for noob developer to port a game. It is THE SAME login system and save system as on console

Yup! That's why From Software was using Live on the PS3 as well, back when they made Demon's Souls. Then they carried on using Live on the PS3 when they ported Dark Souls to the 360.

.. wait.

They should probably have used Steam, though they likely had more experience with LIVE.
(Steam would mean better patching, easier online play - more work for them though - still having achievements and a form of copy protection - certainly more effective than LIVE other than say it's ZDP thing - plus it reaches a larger community and though disliked by many is still more popular than Windows LIVE, I'd guess. Razz )

Who isn't looking forward to all the failed invasions and summons due to GFWL? Steam at least got around to making sure networked games work.

My experience with GFWL has never been good in that regard. Always have to forward ports as the client seemed to have tremendous trouble opening them itself with UPNP but that was my old router with Tomato on it. Depending on how good the game runs I'll be recording and throwing up montages on the youtubes.

I love how the manual doesn't say shit about what we all waiting: PC specific settings.

So, the fps lock rumor is still there, same as the 720p one (however this doesn't make sense, at all)

Keyboard controls seem awkward. I'll use my derpbox controller, thanks

However I like that the game has an ini file and also uses Lua for ingame scripting, that could be really usefull for modding, or maybe fan-fixes.

It's been rumored the game runs at a 30 FPS limit and only supports the 720P resolution, probably the 1080 one too I would guess since that would then match the X360 and PS3 outputs.

Neither have been confirmed but neither have been fully denied either.
(Previews saying it runs well or it doesn't stutter and such but still don't mention a framerate for example, PC specific options and such where also a bit in the dark but at least the manual confirms there is something and that the keys can be re-mapped if required though it also confirms the X360 pad is the recommended control input as was mentioned by the developers early on. Smile )

The last info I heard was from E3, where a reviewer claimed there was an option in the menu called "Framerate limit" that was set to "30" -- but didn't seem to specify if that was a toggle option and/or whether it was just for the dev stuff on display at E3.

Anti-aliasing on/off setting and 30 FPS lock option was spotted during E3, the game also supports 1080p.. Even on a Nvida GTX 6xx card the game had FPS issues though which is very discouraging..

I'd buy it if i can play the game in 30 FPS constantly instead of 15-24, guess i'll have to wait for reviews, definetely not a game i would suggest preordering

Since it's using LIVE I guess it could leak fairly early but there's that ZDP stuff too of course, we'll see.
(Steam version could probably be released too but would likely be encrypted, unsure if there's a retail variant for the Steam version come to think of it.)

From EG. article (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-09-dark-souls-pc-preview-the-devils-bargain)
Quote:
The implication of a PC release is obviously that all these problems can be tackled by the brute force of a faster CPU, and though there are very light hitches here and there, it's a relief to say Blight Town now plays without all the constant chugging. The improvement is staggering to those that endured the treacle-like pace of the area on PS3 and 360, already making this version a winning proposition

at least something PC Master Race
Quote:
There is bad news which could hit PC gamers pretty hit hard, though. While the frame-rate's rough edges have been filed down, you're still going to be playing at 30FPS out of the box, as widely rumoured. A graphics menu has been added in, but there are no obvious ways to raise the bar to the preferable 60FPS mark. In fact, options are pretty meagre overall on this front; you have the standard resolution and refresh rate settings (it does nothing to solve this), and also check-boxes to remove anti aliasing or motion blur. Barebones and to the point.

Sad still thinking about buying this thought
