just wanted to update on my progress with playing xbox 1 games.

looks like i'm fubar since my 360 is a 4gig slim and you apparently need an internal HDD before the fixer will format the drive.

You do realise you can add your own internal drive, right bud? Wink Here's just two of a million guides;

Both of those talk about using an old Xbox HDD but you can even buy your own, as long as it's a specific series of drives. The most common one to use is the WD Scorpio Blue --- you can go up to 320GB and you just need to flash the correct HDDSS.BIN file to the drive so it will be recognised by the 360. It's a DAMNED sight cheaper buying a 320GB Scorpio than a 320GB "official" drive.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-320GB-Hard-Drive/dp/B005PSTV2K << $112 for the official
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Cache-Notebook/dp/B0037NYQ6Q/ref=dp_ob_title_ce << $66 for the Scorpio 500GB. The 360 can't use 500GB at the moment, so use the 320GB HDDSS.BIN and the drive will appear to be a standard 320GB 360 drive Very Happy (the 500GB Scorpio is $20 cheaper than the 320GB Scorpio... go figure)

Example;

i actually have a 20gig HDD from my old RROD failbox.

now all i need is a screwdriver that can actually reach those damn miniature holes... not even the small screwdrivers from the unlock tool kit are small enough.

*sigh

With that existing 20GB you can, once removed from the caddy, just drop it into the 360-S and use it as-is .. no messing around with anything else Smile I really do recommend a larger drive if you can afford one, 20GB is nothing these days - especially if you're installing games for better performance.

Just get a small laptop one:

- WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS
- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT/BPVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT
- WD VelociRaptor Series
- WD AV-25 Series BUDT

and hack that. Here's a guide, if you need one.

NICE! I didn't know the VelociRaptor drives worked too! Shocked Are there any real-world benefits to using those? I know everything will be hampered by the 360's crappy bus speeds, but even still... a 10k RPM drive, heat aside, would be pretty awesome to have Very Happy

You'll need a torx screwdriver set.
I forget the size for the drive cage but since the set is so cheap, it is
good to have all the sizes on hand anyhow.

If you try and use a small regular screwdriver, you risk stripping the screw heads.

What's the fastest way to transfer item's from an external HDD to a internal HDD?

I've just got myself a RGH Slim, and also fitted a 1tb internal drive. Previously i had everything running from the external HDD.
Is the only way via ftp? or could i detatch the 1tb drive and somehow connect it to my laptop, which would pick it up as a storage device? if that make's sense?

It should be using FAT32, which is readable in Windows, so yeah - try and attach it.

Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Check if your computer chassi has an e-SATA-port, if so, use that instead.

FTP is no doubt the most relaxing way, but using xPort 360 with a transfer cable is way faster Smile

Quick question: I added some more XBLA games to my USB HDD as I've always done, and when FSD scanned and found them, it put them in the list with the regular Xbox360 retail games. Any idea what caused this and how to fix it?

You must have messed with the placement somehow. Check your content settings and see if anything is wrong.

Thanks guys, but I just managed to figure it out. I could just press Y in FSD while selecting the game and click "move game" and it was good to go.

I'm on the plain vanilla NXE dashboard since my last update. Didn't bother applying any fancy skins. Though I have the Metro skin handy, but too bored to apply it. Razz

WOW! Looks sweet cobALT. Any bugs that you've experienced so far? How's the navigation? Smooth as the official dashboard?

A few minor ones but I'm not sure how many of those are atributed to FSD and how many to the Metro dash.
For ex. the music section is a bit buggy for me, the sound will stop sometimes and it only gets fixed after a reboot.
And going in and out of the game libraries has a 3-5 sec lagg, that was present in FSD as well, and it could be because I have a bunch of games there.

Other than that, nothing major and everything is pretty smooth, as smooth as FSD gets and the navigation is the same as the official metro dash. It's fine. Very Happy

I recommend you try it out and see for yourself- the dash is on 360iso under JTAG app section, "FSD MetroStyle by Idefix" is the thread; 4.0.1 is the latest version.

I tried a few skins but always go back to Surface. If I could I would rearrange the initial tabs and put the DVD/Profile tabs at the end so it would start with games like the Xeon skin. It can be done with the grinhurtK but I just don't care that much to learn and fix.
http://www.homebrew-connection.org/surface-skin-revisited-pour-fsd-2-2-725/

I'd use Xeon since it's even cleaner, but it's not polished enough.
Opening/Closing a category is superslow since it has some fade effect on top of general slow response from FSD.
The selection can go "out of bounds" freezing the current screen. For example you open up the file manager, navigate a bit and suddenly you're not selecting anything. Pressing up or down a few times then takes you to the first level of categories (games, xbla, xlinkkai) and pressing it again takes you back to the second level (settings, skins etc.) where you still only see a frozen file manager. That's a known bug which the author did not fix since he's not working on it now/anymore while the fade effect is a "feature".

Metrostyle is needlessly complicated with having to navigate around in several rows and columns and switching tabs with LB/RB or a lot of dpading. I don't need that shit, I'm trying to play games, not wrestle with the dashboard. Functionality over aesthetics I guess.
