your own fault for riding your bike on the side walk, don't fucking bash the police. we have laws specifically signed so people DON'T ride their bikes on the side road... serves you right...
and about being off duty... thank god we get these MILLIONS of dollars in salaries to put our lives in danger EVEN when we are off duty... thanks guys... believe it or not we are HIGHLY encouraged not to engage ANYONE while off duty, no matter what... the exact words to the book " when encountering an issue, do NOT engage, call 911 instead"... so shut up.
and if you want a cop to be near you at all times incase of problems, go vote for a 85% taxation of your paycheque so we can hire a cop for every single person and assign them to that guy...
retarded fucknig people, whenever you pull someone over, their retarded line is " don't you have pedophiles to arrest" NO YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT, WE ARE TRAFFIC NOT THE SEX CRIMES UNIT....

actually the offduty policemen did and it took them a good 45 minutes to get their, it wasnt as if the ppl who were mugging me were big or that there were many of them ( considering i was thinking/going to take them on myself if my bro was not there) and guess what all the police did when they got their, they told them to "go away" and they did, touph job heh.

There's a reason that 99.9999999999% of cops don't give a fuck about jaywalking (if it isn't dangerous) and shit like this... can YOU guess what it is?

cause they are understaffed and over worked with calls??? .... Jaywalk is less serious than bike on the side walk.. in jaywalking, the idiot who is jaywalking will be killed... while the kid riding on the side road can hurt himself and someone else pretty seriously...
USUALLY these sort of tickets only happen if the kid is acting like an idiot, most of the time we just warn them…

New York City, home of the NYPfuckingD.
It's an interesting fact that all of the cops in the van were black, and that there was a small gang of 5 or so black kids (black neighborhood) doing the same thing about a block away.
Oh, and did I mention that none of them gave a flying fuck when I was robbed 2 times on one block, saw one of the groups of fucktards sitting there on the corner, called the cops twice; The asswipes left 45 minutes later, the cops got there 2 hours after the first call. Good job, fuckwads.

I never commented on anyone specifically, only lazy, frivolously litigious, and apathetic pieces of shit that wear a badge and drive around for a living. Just as with all other people, there are normal cops and there are asshole cops. Sadly, most of NYPD is of the latter variety.

Accelleron was riding a bike on the sidewalk, and know it's illegal.
Accelleron was busted for doing so.
The police were doing their job.
What's the problem here?

I wasn't talking about the NYPD specifically.
I was talking about cops (individuals as well as groups) that pursue small offenses while ignoring the larger ones. I understand you consider it not worth the money you're getting to risk your life/safety. Guess what: You knew both your salary and the risks involved before you signed up for the job. You have no right to complain about being "underpaid" or the job being too hazardous, since you accepted the job with full knowledge of what its risks and rewards were. This doens't necessarily pertain to you or to any specific group of cops, but to all cops in general who are out there with the primary goal of collecting a paycheck and a primary means of fining insignificant offenses.
As for fisk,
Quote: | In Denver it is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor. |
source: http://www.stupidlaws.com/general/col_vacuum.html
Some laws were simply meant to be ignored. I understand, biking on a sidewalk can be cicumstantially dangerous. But I was going slowly, I was fully aware of my environment, and there are front lawns in the area I was in to prevent me from hitting anyone or anything. I didn't have the appearance of an asshat, nor did I have an attitude with the cops. If anything, I was meek. It was early evening, the streets were almost empty, and there was hardly any danger in what I was doing. That, and the fact that I got pulled over on a shopping block instead of a residential area. That is a well-lit, empty area with no danger of anything larger than a pebble getting run over. There is no logical justification for the ticket, only a bureaucratic one.

Ah, another cop debate
Well, while I will say Max, u have changed my view on police in general somewhat and I dislike them less but, some cops, do waste fuckin time and energy on needless things....like take for instance getting pulled over when ur speeding. Does the cop really need to take 45 minutes to write me a fuckin ticket? No he wants to make me wait to demonstrate that by speeding cuz Im in a hurry isnt going to get me where ever quicker. Thats fine, but wouldnt the $200 dollar ticket give me that incite? He could simply write me a ticket and be on his way with the next violator of law.
Not to mention, when i younger, being picked up for smoking or drinking in a park with my buddies...having to give the cop our booze or weed, only to see him smokin/drinking our shit 10 mins later...
I'm not gunna say where for security reasons, but once, I was behind a local pizza shop smoking a 1 paper while I was waiting for my pizza - I also had a gram on me. Anyway, a cop rolled up. Got outta the car, did the regular routine etc Anyway, after being searched he said to me that if I smoked the rest of the 1 paper with him and gave him the gram he wouldnt book me or give me a ticket - so i obliged...Well, I go back inside the pizza shop, wait a lil longer, grab my pizza. I have to walk by the back of the store to get to my house...and what i do I see when I walk by? The same bwoy dem sittin in his car smoking my fuckin gram....
And Max, I dunno if u were a cop when some stuff went down a few years ago but all I have to say is one name to say to u, Dave Moore....good cop, but crooked in the sense he does what i said above plus the scandal he was in
I think that was the cops name, i cant remember, but it was all over the paper.

Oh and on that note dude, I look at cops the same way I look at teachers, priests and judges....Its a vocation, not a job...being a cop to me is a calling, thats why I wouldnt be one. I mean, if I were a cop, I would look at it like Im a public servant of the law and no matter whether im on or off duty, I have an obligation - because of training, backup etc - to act on a crime/injustice if I see one. Once u look at being a cop like a job, i think the essence has been lost.
Why do u think schools are going to shit nowadays? back in the day, a teacher was the guide, the parent, the morality officer, the educator of a child. Its the teachers job to make sure that the child has the tools (in relation to education) to succeed in life and to be an educated member of the public...but thats gone to shit...teaching is simply a 9-5 job so to speak and for the most part, teacher's lack the will to actually care and guide their students, even the bad ones, in life.
While I cant say the cops are over paid (how much does an entry level officer make man? seriously), teacher's in my view, are way to over paid...I believe in Ontario the entry level salary is 45-50G's a year depending on what ur teaching and what level of education u are teaching...and I mean, thats only for 10 months a year + numerous vacation days in between. Thats a great fuckin deal to me.
Anyway, to sum it up, if ur a cop ur a cop - on or off duty. Its a calling, not a job.

haahhaahah no dude its not a calling.. its AN AWSOME job... we have a mandate NOT to interfere with off duty problems... its an order...
cops have a HUGE social problem ( being a lw binding person, odd times, horrible things not phasing you anymore and such), their pay sucks, their schedule is all fucked up and changes bi monthly, you are required to work on most if not all civic holidays, weekends, birthdays... new years... and all for 38 grand to start and 43 grand on ur first year??? and you want me to when I’m off duty jump in and foil a robbery and put my life, my relationship with my Gf, my family all in danger??? isn't that what the on duty cops are for???
Who are you to tell me what to do.. i will do all that while on duty... off duty is OFF DUTY.. I’m OFF... I need a life outside being a cop or I’ll fucking miss the entire life...
There is no way I can put you in my shoes and no way for you to understand what I mean… so I’ll just drop this thread…

Nono dude, I think u took my post as like an attack...not at all. I totally agree with you - based on the salary figures and the state of a large city today (especially toronto), I would do the exact same thing. Why put myself, family etc at risk when Im not on the job...but thats the whole moral dilemma that ppl have.
Like i said, if i were a cop, I'd do the same cuz its just logical.
But on the other hand, we have been raised to think differently than that. That a cop is above the common ppl in a way, and has a duty to uphold the law whether or not he's on the "job". Its a sensitive issue but like i said, to me its a vocation man. U shouldnt be a cop for the money or benefits - those who are cops should have higher motives in mind for being an officer of the law
To me, cops are just like soldiers, ur defending the public - its of higher purpose than most things and should be treated like so.
But sadly, not enough cops think like that because they are human, and from what u say, the money and stuff that u work for to survive is not good enough to be "on-duty" on the time, I can see why you and other cops would feel like that.
I know it sounds like Im agreeing to both sides of the debate and I think I am. Its an ethical dilemma, and i guess depends on the individual cop rather than cops as a whole.

I sincerely hope you are not serious, because that was just ignorant.
Just as with the Jewish/Holocaust issue, and perhaps more so, the people demanding benefits from slavery have never been through slavery. IF anything, they have MORE opportunity today than the average American. Have you ever heard of Affirmative Action? Didn't think so. It's a program that reserves a set amount (somewhere in the order of 10%, if I'm not mistaken) of seats in places like college, for "minority" (read: black) students. Yep, I have less of a shot at a good college because people of their race (not even their relatives, most of the people I deal with are first-generation immigrants) were once abused. That's beside the fact that they get more scholarship money, public sympathy, a better shot at official jobs (AA, again) and many other benefits I do not. So don't fucking tell me about enslaving anyone.
As for Max, Please dude, read my last 4 posts. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY PARTICULAR GROUP OF COPS. I am referring to cops who do not deserve half of what little they earn, because instead of having at least a little bit of the chivalrous mentality Syco was talking about, they choose to go after the smallest, least problematic violations they can keep their job going after. These are people abusing the power given to them to earn money. THAT, and not refusing to risk your life, is the issue at hand. While cops are underpaid for risking their lives, so are soldiers. But you don't see soldiers that choose to sit in their bunker and only shoot the women and children, do you? Same story: You're paid for performing a spectrum of tasks, ranging from the low-risk, unimportant things such as traffic violations to the life-threatening tasks. Both of those are symbollic: most cops don't have to pull out their gun for years, if at all. Likewise, most cops don't trouble people jaywalking, riding their bikes on the sidewalk, or lending their vaccum cleaner to their neighbors UNLESS THEY ARE BEING A THREAT TO THEMSELVES OR OTHERS WHILE DOING SO. That is the part that was lost on the people that wrote me the ticket, and THAT is my issue.
TheRat: That was a troll. One of my issues was that people they had more reason to arrest (a group, dressed in gang attire) were doing the same thing half a block from me. When I asked, after she gave me the ticket, why they did not do similarly to that group, I was told "don't worry about it". When the cop drove away in that direction, when the gang was being rowdy and doing the EXACT SAME FUCKING THING, she must've only told them to leave because they just biked away and she drove off in the opposite direction. THAT was my problem, not the race alone.
