There was folkore summit on our main square today. Watched a bunch of acts from all over Europe, and one of the last ones was an Iranian puppet group.

At first I though the language barrier would be an issue, but it still turned out to be really funny and entertaining.

I managed to talk to one of the performers after the show, about the history of puppets in Iran, and apparently they copied them from Indian puppeters.

But most important of all, not a single one of my fellow citizens displayed any kind of animosity to the puppeters just because they're from Iran.
It's easy to forget that most people in Iran are just like people from anywhere else, have the same wants, needs, and it was quite nice to see that these particular Iranians weren't affected by the reputation they have in a lot of countries. There was no special security from them, no dogs, nothing.

All in all, a great day Smile

There are tons of Iranians around LA, and people love them (culture is very similar to Serbo-Croatian) <3 No one hates Iranians, but everyone hates their government. Big difference.

There's an Iranian guy working in a kebab shop here. He's cool - gives me free burgers from time to time Very Happy He tells everyone he's from Persia. I wonder if it's common for Iranians to still call it that.

I have worked with two guys from Iran during a hardware migration job of a big company here and they both called their country Persia (Perzië). They fled Iran because they did not like the regime there and one was also politically prosecuted. Both spoke Dutch really well and tried to make the best here. Smile

You can never judge a book by its cover. This goes for gender, sexual orientation (unless it's something unacceptable like paedophilia), skin colour, etc.

One of my iranian friends vowed that some day he would bulldoze the grave of Ayatollah Khomeini and piss on the spot. He sees himself as persian.
