Yeah I downloaded that this past weekend. I haven't started looking at it though as I just started playing the game (level 3 so far) and I don't want to spoil it for myself.

The gameplay and graphics are great, just don't try too hard to understand the story, it's cryptic (on purpose) to say the least

Dayem, this reminded me that I still have to play the DLC! (and on Hard this time, for maximum challenge *)

I finished it. Took me a little below 15 hours on Hard. I died a lot. Most of my deaths were in the previously mentioned third chapter where I had screwed with the upgrades. However I also died around 20 times in the final showdown...
Spoiler: | The Constructor fight was easy in comparison. But this final arena felt at times like those baserapes in multiplayer games, with only a couple of medkits to catch a breath. |
Anyway, most importantly, I really had a lot of fun. We needed this kind of shooter in these times. On the other hand, the story was crap, even with the DLC addition (at least it made the game feel more "complete"). And the voice acting
Finally, the AI was more than decent and very challenging (though sometimes because of their great numbers) and the graphics, just plain gorgeous and very rich visually.
Beautiful graphics and settings + crappy story/voice acting + great and solid old-school shooting + distinguished AI + lots of fun =
8/10 for me.

You should play Serious Sam 3 if you haven't. It's much better in my opinion.

I never got into Serious Sam (I'm not really sure why, maybe it was the setting and the visual style), but I will certainly include that in my game queue at some point.

I never really loved Painkiller because I grew up with the SS games, which simply do everything better as far as I'm concerned. I didn't like in Painkiller how I was put in these small areas while the game was just throwing tons of berserk enemies at me. Hard Reset is the spiritual successor of Painkiller and it seems to have kept the bad things from it too, which is a shame. That's why I simply can't finish this. I just find it extremely frustrating and boring when I have to fight so many enemies in such small areas, especially while moving so slow. Yes, I find the game slow, both in movement and pace. Why the game frustrates me this much is because I can't save whenever I can so I need to explore everything again when I die (and since you die a lot in this...) because of the bad level design, speed or AI. Frell it, I don't need this. I'm extremely glad Serious Sam is still Serious Sam. And no, I don't find it a bad game. It's just that I don't find it that hard (definately easier than SS3), only frustrating.

It's not that I don't like it or that I hate it. I just find it boring and I would rather play a superior game, which any Serious Sam is to me.

yeah I am with sabin here. nothing beats level design in PK.
Spoiler: | |
fcourse thats just a matter of taste and opinion. I still run Painkiller and load up some levels and WALK AROUND with ambient music without enemies. Thats how good the atmosphere is:P And when it gets to fighting, there are big and small levels but each have its own style of tactics

I don't quite remember when I bought this game, probably during a sale. I don't see an "Extended Edition" prefix in Steam. Do I have the complete version or the first version?

I know this is a shooter and it shouldn't matter much, but this game has one of the worst story(telling) I have ever seen in a game.

Now imagine how bad it was BEFORE the Exile addon, heh. Yeah... the game has the looks and the awesome gameplay but damn if it doesn't lack in the story department.
