I'm back!
I give it an 8.
I enjoyed the acting and cinematography, the first fight between Bane and Batman was incredible in my opinion, very vicious and brutal.
The second and last however was too brief and ended in a most anti-climactic manner.
Not much of a review but I'm just too damn hungry.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

I love it! Dude shoots a bunch of people during Dark Knight Rises and the first thing I hear from the stupid news analysts is he must have played video games... WHAT? Apparently it has nothing to do with an insane dark knight fan cause " it's a family friendly movie rated PG-13".

Wow, this movie was brilliant. Didnt think it could top off the previous one, but it is easily the best of the trilogy. Kinda wish the movie was a bit longer though, I wanted more of that Bane/Batman fight and was kinda let down with the way they finished things in that aspect.
Everything else was perfect, great cast and good acting all around, and even Anne Hathaway as Catwoman did not dissapoint. Those who are not sure about shelling out a few measly bucks, believe me it is worth it and more. Did an ATM run at the last minute to scrounge up some dough for the tickets and I have no regrets (after seeing it now, I actually wouldnt mind paying even more to see it again). So go watch it if you havent already!!

Great film, absolutely loved it. Still think the Dark Knight is better though, but a great end to a fantastic trilogy. Thought Anne Hathaway would be a weak link but she was excellent in it. Bane is a beast pure and simple , i actually liked his voice and his speaking mannerisms.
Spoiler: | Apart from the neutron bomb i didn't really regard him as a villain, especially after his stint in the stock exchange and "freeing" Gotham to an extent. Probably just my twisted mind though. |

Well i went to see it twice in a row, been a massive Dark Knight fan i reckon this was very very good but not as good as The Dark Knight, perhaps because you cant get past the mesmerizing Joker performance by Heath Ledger which no matter what Tom Hardy did with Bane he wouldn't better, and for me their isn't enough BATMAN in this one wish they had got more gadgets and batman scenes in it. Have to love the batwing though fucking want one!
I was pleasantly surprised how sexy they managed to get Anne Hathaway to look aswell had a feeling she would not fit that role but she does.

Bleh, I know I'll probably be crucified over this, but I didn't like it. Gonna voice my displeasure tomorrow. Too tired right now.

Just came back from seeing it. 9.5/10. It is not as good as TDK. It could never be. But despite the high score, I have some complaints. I will put my review in a spoiler, because I do not wish to be shackled by constraints of people who have not seen it.
Spoiler: | It is not as good as TDK. That one had a perfect story and a perfect character, and it was bordering impossible to top. But what is to be found here is also good, bearing caveats. First, pacing. It is very different than either BB or TDK. BB had a rather traditional pacing. TDK was an onslaught. This is very different. It is rather slow in its two thirds, very methodical in its story building. There are "hot spots" of sequences - and they are huge peaks, like the first Bane/Batman encounter - but very fast, the pacing goes down in speed. It is very intentional, as the bleak sequence of events creeps in. I liked it, but some might not. The latter third is an onslaught also.
Now, I think the weakest point of the film is the overall story and villain - no, that's not Bane, he is merely a tool for the real villain which is revealed at the last minutes. I just can't relate to the League of Shadows and its purpose. I was not convinced by either Al Ghul characters. The solution to bad is not clean slate with everything bad removed. Thus this film suffers from similar problem as BB. So why such high score? Otherwise, Transformers might get 11/10. The score is high because in the context of the total annihilation scope, the plan and character moments are superb. The mastermind behind this plot was a much better planner than Ra's, and in fact makes the events in BB seem like an amateur's plan. Bale is excellent, as usual, albeit missing somewhat. Surrounding characters are really good also - Blake, Gordon, Alfred, Fox. Even Hathaway does a good job as Selina Kyle, despite the stereotypical turn of events at the end. Bane is made to look as a beast rather successfully - he's huge. And he's not the main villain, but it is not clear if he's a puppet or the mastermind behind the events, and Talia is just there for the ride.
My only only problem, as I said before, is the whole point of this brilliantly executed plan. It is still better here than in BB, as Talia just wants to finish what her father wanted.
Some obvious commentary on Wall Street and people in power, but not very deep - and I don't think that was the point - so I won't talk about that. I will just say that TDK was more convincing in its bleak commentary and lukewarm conclusion.
But Rises' conclusion is very satisfying. It could have turned very cheesy at the hands of lesser writers and director, but here we see the masters at work. Truly good. "Everyone can be a hero - like some one putting a coat on a scare boy and reassuring him" is perfection.
Nolan leaves the series with an open ended conclusion (not regarding Wayne). Whether the bait will be taken, and another team will work on continuing the same world, or whether the new team would rather do a different take on the dark knight remains to be seen. We know a reboot is already planned. Perhaps high numbers of this could sway them to remain in the same world and focus on the new Batman (despite his full name being "Robin").
Visually, the film is masterfully shot and edited, in my opinion, like all Nolan films. Can't think of anything to complain about. He knows how to shoot.
The soundtrack, as I said in the soundtrack thread, is a bit disappointing, but it works well in the movie. Large portions of it in the film are the "Bane plan" theme. Kyle gets a new, noir-like (?) theme - it's OK. My problem was the lack of conclusion to the themes in the first two tracks. The second track was a clear continuation of the first, thematically, just like the second film was to the first (as well as the excellent Joker screeching theme). This is somewhat different. One could say that the lack of Wayne in large portions of the film makes this understandable, but still, Zimmer could have done a better job. I think Newton Howard's influence is missing here. Still, some good tracks, especially at the end, when the true story is revealed (the excellent "Necessary Evil") and the conclusion of the film ("Rise"). Still, the second takes the cake as the best soundtrack of this trilogy. |
What else to say? I just realized I typed too much on this iPad. Just go see the film, it is very good. I am happy today, and might go see it again soon.
To rank between the three, this comes as a close second after TDK, followed by a solid BB as third.

Thats a bit harsh - extremely well made, but tdk is a better movie.
BB 7
TDK 9.5
TDKR 8
I hated Banes voice - that made no sense when they even took to explain the character. Did he set his voicebox to 200 year old Sean Connery? Catwoman didnt get my blood flowing either. Would have wished for entirely other story and other villians - for me it was not necessary to bind the 3 movies together in the fashion they did. Some lame scenes - like what the hell with that 5 meter climbing wall - that looked like a pretty easy climb...really. But ofcourse plenty of cool scenes as well.

Why are people so down on Begins? I thought Begins had a much tighter and focused script and better pacing that TDKR by miles.

Well for me its mainly because Ras al ghoul was pretty bland and boring - same complaint as I have with Bane. And a tight and focused script does not always make a better movie - heck I may even prefer them the other way around - like Nolans earlier Memento for one.

Actually I was happy with how everything was wrapped up. I hate it when they leave stuff ambiguous at the end of a trilogy/storyline.

I'm a pretty big Nolanite myself and I liked TDKR, but I get where you are coming from Waldo. I don't know if its just me, but the pacing seemed really "off" after the football scene. I never felt that 6 entire months had passed with Bane controlling Gotham, the passage of time seemed really weak imho.
And the pit story just seemed odd to me, that it was unguarded and a child and Bruce could just climb out? Blake and Selina were great but the script seemed really choppy and disjointed.

Some idiots on IMDb think the ending was ambiguous.
