Hi All, some advice on upgrades please...
Current Rig
HP8400W - 2 x 2.66Ghz Xeon 5150
8gb FBDIMM
120GB OCZ Agility 3 on Asus U3S6 card
1TB Samsung F3
500 GB Samsung HD501LJ
750 GB Seagate Barracuda ES1
ATI 5830 1GB + LG W2242S @ 1680x1050
E-MU 0404 Soundcard on PCI
Usage - Some gaming (Currently MP3 & D3), Pro Audio production /DJing, Video Editing, General Recovery work and testing.
Budget ~£500 + whatever I sell from 8400w rig
I Love my current rig as it is fast, stable and incredibly reliable but want to upgrade before my wedding in a month (as it will be last chance for a long while)
As this will be the last upgrade for about 3-5 yrs I expect I want something quick and reliable but upgradeability (apart from hdd/ssd) is not a key factor as the next upgrade will probably be a complete replacement.
Multicore/thread is important to me for the video editing and audio work.
I would like native sata 6g for my ocz agility but anything without must have a pcie 2.0 4x or greater slot for the asus u3s6 card.
Do i go down the i5 2500k or i7 2600k or ivybridge route, or i7 920/40/60 and x58 route or even bulldozer? - i was looking at 2500k but have heard that some mb's have pcie 2.0 slots running at 1.1 speeds for pcie x1/4
Gfx will probably stay the same as my current card runs fine even on a pcie 1.0 x16 slot.
Soundcard is fine although maybe needing replacement if new mb has no pci slots... or a pcie to pci adaptor
I would appreciate any suggestions guys

Cant believe that no-one had any advice
In the end this is what i went for (some decisions based on cost, others on local availability)
Intel I7 3770K (Stock cooler atm, no real OC yet temp is ambient + 4'c - will get a corsair /antec water kit soon) - £275
ASRock Extreme 4 M/B - £100
16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengance 1600 memory - £90
Antec 1 Case (Wanted to reuse the XW8400 Case and PSU but would have needed to cut out the back for the motherboard (all the mb connectors like usb ps2 etc are cut direct into chassis panel) - £50
Antec 1 550W PSU (550W Cont / 680W peak, 2x30A 12v) - £45
Grabbed a 5850 (s/h £70) to add to my 5830 in CF

The 5850 CF with a 5830 is a bad idea. You should have waited slightly longer for comments or bump up the thread. You want to CF 5850 with a 5830 and use a 550w power supply? Not sure it'd work. i5 2500k is still the better option when it comes to cpus. My advice is get rid of the 5830 and 5850 and get a GTX670. That will "future" proof your rig. Even if the budget doesn't allow, it's still a bad idea to CF. You're gonna have hell with it from what I read.

tbh ill probably end up using the 5830 in my spare rig as the 5850 o/c's well on its own and will do me at the res i play in. at the moment the 5850 copes fine with owt i throw at it. Max Payne 3 runs beautifully, only really that, d3 im playing on the pc, got 360, ps3 and wii for gaming. pc is mainly for video editing and audio production.
btw the cf of 5850 and 5830 seems to be fine atm, psu is coping fine as im not o/cing much (none on gfx, i7 @4ghz), but not really needed atm so will use it in spare rig.

It's just depends what games you're after. I wanted more adequate performance from BF3 and Project Cars so I really had to upgrade my 5850 to the current gtx 580. You don't have to buy everything new, you can get like-new second hand stuff and even still get warranty on it.
