Just asked that since ArenaNet might have a system in place that allows updating the client per region. Something else, the GW1 update system also powers GW2. Their system allows releasing area updates that will only start downloading when you visit this area. I played during BWE1 and 2.
@khaze: Yes the gw2.dat file will increase while playing the game.
They must have given away 200k keys perhaps and still people are without. The hype is back I guess. This is good, I really want to see some expansions later on so ArenaNet has got to succeed.
Anyway you can always pre order/pre purchase the game to get beta access. Make sure to check out some vid's by The Sparrow's Journey. He is Portuguese so bear with his accent, but he does manage to give a good impression of the game. And some tips for newcomers:

I bought GW1 but found it to be a snoozefest.. is this typical MMO style combat or more hack and slash, Diabloish type of combat.. or somewhere in between?
By the sounds of it you can dodge a lot of attacks... something Blizzard said wasn't "fun.." lol
Somewhere in between sounds like a good description, bought GW 1 with all the addons myself last year because i never played it, and i just couldnt make it very far the combat felt so slow and boring, but i rly like the gw2 combat system it just feels right.
Combat is a mix of traditional MMORPG and more hack-n-slashy. I find it a lot more active than most MMORPGs. In terms of builds, at first glance it might seem a bit simplistic, with less choices than its predecessor. As you get used to it you will find out there's some depth and you'll start to see the other underlying mechanics that make the combat interesting. Things like skill combos, weapon swapping, traits and dodge really add to the combat.
In regards to dodging you can check out this video
