So I abort, and "start the game again"... I though, but then I respawn at the very same spot in the middle of fucking nowhere, with low blood, crazy thirst and hunger, and bleeding.
What's the point of this? To make the experience as mindnumbingly boring as possible? I just don't get it. |
Some people just suck at this game. Don't take it personally. Myself, once I figured out zombie aggro i've only died twice outside the first session of playing.
The game is very rewarding once you step beyond the realm of trying to figure out basic mechanics. |
Heh, yeah you might be right. I just played another session and got lucky, entered a barn and found myself an axe. I figured I would go zombie hunting and killed 10 of them, after bandaging myself I figured I was OK, but then apparently I ran some place where I shouldn't (was crossing a ditch) because all of a sudden I collapse and it looks like I broke my leg. I did find a shotgun and some shells too, never got to using them before I died tho'.
Btw, how do you fill a water bottle in this game?
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Either at a well pump in some towns, or at the ponds dotting the map.

Go to a pond, don't go further in it than 2-3 steps, open your gear, right click water bottle, "fill water bottle", done.

Also, is there a way to kill zombies with an axe without getting bit at the same time? Do you know?

Well, take your axe, lay down, approach them from behind and try to hit them from a distance of 3-4 meter without being noticed. Alternatively if a zombie sees you, hold down shift while going backward and click like a mad man

Pretty much fucked until you can find a real weapon.
I find the easiest way to get started back up after dying in this game is spawning at that city in the SW side of the map, looting it for enough food/water and hopefully a compass. Then move north to that next city if you don't have those things yet.
Once you find a compass run a straight line north through the woods and if you look at a map you can see that you'll end up running right near eventually like 5 deer stands. By the time you make it all the way to the last one way far NW you'll have a decent set of gear, and it is fairly safe doing this. You'll also run past some locations where there may be vehicles.
Then you can run east from that spot towards the NW Airfield where I may then snipe you while you run in the middle of a field.
Repeat process.
???
Profit

BTW this game really is not THAT hard. I managed to reach the northwest airfield within 2 hours, after spawning at a random location and collecting the following gear on my way: AKM(3 magazines) + M14 AIM(2 magazines), morphine, plenty to drink and eat, hunting knife, map, bigger back pack.
I am pretty much set for a longer session and only needed to kill 2 zombies (luckily I found the shitty crowbar for that ). If you are a noob, be sure to play on a night server. Walking around during day time is just suicide.
This game requires you to have a good visual memory and your internal compass working right When you spawn on the south coast(kamenka komarovo balota airfield chernogorsk cap golova elektrozavodsk drakon otmel kamyshovo, to determine your position look to the bottom right of your on screen display the moment you spawn, it will tell you where you spawned), north is when you keep the sea directly behind you. If you spawn on the east coast, north is when you keep the sea to your right.
During day/night time you should look north and memorize the position of the sun/moon, so that you can always find north yourself, even if you should be lost in the woods. During night time you can also memorize the position of the stars to help you navigate.
And even if you can't seem to find the sun or moon due to weather conditions, just look at the ground to your own player shadow or if this is not enough, to the shadow of the trees. Remember that the sun goes up in the ~east and sets in the ~west
As chernarus is in ~europe, moss should be on the northwest facing side of trees, but I never saw that in the game so... maybe this could be added for further orientation help
If you know where north is, you can easily identify your position in the world, by simply looking north and opening an online map like f.e. www.dayzdb.com/map and searching for specific landmarks, like intersections, mountains, tree lines or the directions longer ponds are facing.
For basic survival needs look out for barns. They will have simple weapons (shotguns, basic rifles), ammunition, hunting knifes (to gut animals, sadly you can't use them as weapon), hatchets (to gather wood in dense woods, kill enemies/animals silently). For food and water find supermarkets or just normal houses. Stock up on bandages, secondary weapon ammo is not that important!

Why should moss be on the northwest side of trees? Its a myth that you can calculate heading based on moss growth

Less sunshine on that part of the tree, more humidty, moss growth benefits, no? fisk wrote: | So where do you humpers play? If you have a watch you can use your watch just as you would in real life to find North as well. The only difference is that since you can't 'aim' the hour hand / zulu hand at the sun like in real life you have to base it off of the direction of casted shadows.

Clouds in Chernarus always go to the East, pretty handy information when you find watches instead of a compass

Just great. Our camp got raided by propably some hackers now. Why hackers you may ask?
Today everyone on DE77 had the honor to encounter that someone spawned in an SCAR_H_TWS_SD and everyone got greeted by the error message. Then people reported that their Vehicles went missing even though they were still hidden a couple of minutes ago before they left their camps (no server restarts happened or anything, they just vanished when everything was live). So, the last one of our group logged out 40 minutes ago inside of our camp when everything was fine. Now I just logged in to check and save tents again when I found a whole mess. Lot's of starter gear and chemlights scattered around our campsite. Random food items in tents where they shouldn't be. 2x Camo suits, 1x L85NOOBWS, 2x Bizon Mags (They didn't pick up the 2 Bizon SD SMGS we had in our weapons tent?!) and ofc, our vehicles are gone.
So me and a buddy (yes, the special one) geared up the most of our rare stuff onto our chars now and logged out... I'll never gonna leave good stuff in tents ever again. Fucking hackers!
Gonna switch servers tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the guys from the camp we've flattened totally rage snapped and hooked up some hack.
(And yes, I'm in contact with various other groups on the server. We came in contact because we had group-wars all the time. The camp we destroyed was the one of some newer guys on the server. That's how we've found out. All of their camps got busted and all vehicles are gone. All just today in a couple of hours timeframe. Pure coincidence, eh?)
Fucking cheating cunt nuggets are pissing me off so much... fucking popularity!

I am a frequent viewer of this forum and am always viewing new .nfo's and new posts. I have just got Day Z to work and I would love to play on a server with a group where we can survive together. Take out bandits, zombies too. Get vehicles and hold up in a safe place. When I play alone it's not as fun and I tend to get killed. With a group it would be loads of fun.
So I am basically posting to ask (i feel like a lil kid saying this lol) if I can play with you guys on your server? I was also wondering about the teamspeak channel and when you guys were planning on playing so I can make sure to join you. I frequently played arma 2 with PC Gamer guys on their server and had loads of fun playing the cops and robbers mod/mission, and just practicing together as a group (I did that with the 7th Calvary; I believe they were called...).
So basically if you would like another player to join who is not a jerk and likes working together in a group then let me know if it's okay to join you and when. I am cmdrcrackhead on steam (bensanborn@earthlink.net) if you can't find me on there. I am also on Raptr as mistertpitydafoo (and on gfwl as cmdrcrackhead/mistertpitydafoo).
Thanks and sorry to bother you guys with a sorta off topic post. Even if you say no I appreciate you at least considering letting me join your rag tag group of bad asses
