Quote:
For decades, the Galactic Empire has been locked in an interstellar war with the Free Planets Alliance, a conflict that involves thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers on both sides. Two new commanders enter the conflict with great hopes: Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the FPA's Yang Wen-Li. As they deal with superiors and subordinates, maneuver through complicated political arrangements, plot strategies, and win battles, each will be tested, and ultimately, changed, by the reality of war.

I was looking for scifi animes and this one kept popping up. I was reluctant to give it a try since it's quite old. At first the animations were kinda bad and put me off a bit, but when I got immersed in the story, it started to grow on me. The animations get better after some time. It's truly an epic saga. Kinda reminds me of game of thrones. Tons of characters. The borders between good and evil might be a bit more present though, but still quite hazy. It has 110 episodes and a few prequel movies. Atm I'm at ep 39 and it's shaping to be one of my all time favourite animes. There are lots of plots and political intrigues, war in space and so on. I really like the fact that they look politics, ideologies and such things from a neutral perspective and stuff isnt forced on the viewer. Sometimes it gets quite violent and graphic, but it's not overdone and used when needed only. Soundtrack is some awesome classical music which really fits the space battles.

Im gonna feel like shit when it's over Sad

Anyways just wanted to bring some attention to this masterpiece Smile

Seen this anime series mentioned quite a number of times before, interested into getting into it myself. How is the space combat in it? I keep imagining it's like 19th century naval warfare, only in space with like the manouvers and trying to fire off broadsides.

Combat is often showed as different coloured masses, which represent the fleets, moving around in the battlefield. i think u can compare it to naval warfare. You do have to keep in mind that most of the series (at least till ep 40) has been politics and lots observation of history and other such stuff. Still there are enough battles to satisfy my needs
