i don't really know much about it and have been using random trackers and filesharing sites etc.
so is it worth it both when it comes to "safety"(let's be honest... we all know why we're here =D) and general access to content?
oh and what's the best place IYO to get started?

yes it's worth it, $10/month is not a lot of money anyways.
to get started go here: www.astraweb.com and www.nzbsrus.com
asus z170-A || core i5-6600K || geforce gtx 970 4gb || 16gb ddr4 ram || win10 || 1080p led samsung 27"

If you want to test it before shelling out cash for a full speed account, you could try this:
http://just4today.net/
It is free, and gives you 2 connections totalling 500kbps. Also, the retention is closer to 400 days than the 10 it advertises.
It's supposed to be a different username/password every day, but you can simply use any username containing a | (vertical bar, not lower case L) and any password you and don't have to change it at all.
Astraweb is by far the best for premium accounts, though.

i actually went ahead and got a blocknews account since i wouldn't feel "pressured" to get my money's worth and astraweb's block offer just seemed to steep a price when i just wanna try it out for starters.
anyways will ask if i run into issues.
edit: ok i ran into an issue already lol
how do you search for specific files?
i'm using grabit and i've loaded a bunch of newsgroups but don't really see a searchbar... the only thing that comes close it the grabit searchbar but apparently you only get a few free tries before you have to sign up for a fee for unlimited searches.
edit x 2: ok nvm found out how to use the find button xd

hm came across a real problem this time.
why can i only see around 5000 articles(out of hundreds of thousands or millions) in grabit even after a full update?
don't know how to view the rest..
edit: found out that the bug is with grabit itself... anyone know of a newreader with the simplicity/accessibility of grabit but that can show all(or most) of the headers of a group?

2 best apps:
1. SabNZB (this one can be used as a http server since it runs on your browser and you can access it remotely, offers the most customization as well)
2. AltBinz

Don't use a "find" option or similar shit to try and find what you want.
Instead, get used to what an NZB is. I'm surprised noone has linked it yet, but check out http://www.binaries4all.com/ - everything is explained there.

i'm starting to pick up on it and also know how to work NZB files and various search engines.
as for finding stuff i prefer browsing big lists(like dc++ back in the day) than just doing specific searches which is why i prefer grabit's browser.
i realized that something like binsearch effectively offers the same option but there's just too much clutter and way too many pages to go through etc.
it's great when searching for specific items though.

i tried SabNZB but didn't understand too well how it worked... got a quick tutorial on how to browse a random newsgroup or is it only usable through NZB?
anyways thx for all the suggestions

You can try something like Spotnet for browsing, its in dutch however, but even if you aren´t Dutch it´s a nice addition to a nzb site. This program list all the new spots, mostly by Dutch people, however you will find that new releases are quickly listed in this program. Plus you can read/write comments below spots and download the nzb ofcourse.

Been a happy astraweb user for many, many years. Has always been worth it imo! Was also on Giganews for awhile before I found astraweb, back when I was fool.

It was way cheaper for me, and I seem to have less retrieval errors. But that could be bullshit. ;p

I dunno, is unlimited access to videos, audio, applications, games, documents, and such - be it copyrighted or not at your max download speed "worth it"?
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.
