Well, I got the beach outta' the way for vacation stuff. So I'm all beached out. Now I am looking for some adventure type destinations and Egypt has always been on my radar.
Would love to ride a camel and check out pyramids and just visit the area. Anyone ever been?
do you really need to go to countries where you get begged at all the time, see poverty, risk life and limb being shot at or maybe kidnapped being a westerner etc? Im sure you don't need educating do you on these issues that have been across india in places and egypt of late?
I am pretty sure you can find something more cultural in places that are not war/terrorist torn areas at this time?

Well I don't NEED to go anywhere... ;p But I do feel the need to live my life a bit. I really doubt I'd get shot at or kidnapped.
And if there is poverty, don't these areas count on travelers as a major income source?
My cousin went a month ago, as a tourist he didn't see any of the "turmoil". I know from experience in Turkey that media usually severely exaggerate "mass hysteria" and "shitstorms". I'd advise checking a touring agency, the country itself isn't that interesting really, so you should fully focus on the attractions.
Ever been to Istanbul? Everyone should visit Istanbul atleast once in their life..
My Uncle is a frequent tourist in Egypt, even during the turmoil. He says there is nothing happening in the tourist areas, and no one touches the tourists anyways. I wouldn't worry about it Just exercise common sense; if there is a demonstration/riot in your area, GTFO. Otherwise, enjoy
Egypt is nice tho a lot of people go there so i guess it's kinda crowded. It would be great if you could ditch the group and go explore the pyramids on your own.
Who knows, maybe you accidently lean on a torch and a secret passage opens up.
Nope I have only just begun the exploration side of life..
What is Instanbul all about?!
Many historical monuments, sea all around, shopping mania (if you like that stuff), boat trips, excellent food, general feel of a living city et cetera. It's a huge buzzing city, much to do. Air humidity is killing in the middle of summer though, so spring would be your best bet (excellent weather during May for example).
I'm a Turk so I probably experience the city differently since I speak the language and whatnot, but my Dutch friends also love the city.
I went to Egypt in the last month, and couldn't be more full of praise over the country - I've never met a friendlier people than the Egyptians and there was absolutely no trouble.
What makes it sad is that the people are so desperate for tourism now after the revolution, the market in Cairo was virtually empty and where there was once 250 tourist boats on the Nile there are now less than 10. Expect to be hassled most places you go however (people wanting to hold your camera for a dollar, shoe shining etc). I stayed in Cairo but got a day flight to Luxor early for the valley of the kings, it was magnificent.
You can get great tour guides pretty cheap, and as the revolution has affected tourism so greatly, it was just a on on one tour with myself, my wife and the guide where two years ago it would have been a group of 30+. With the lack of crowds I felt I got to explore the real Egypt, plenty of small back alley restaurants with camels walking past, a great experience. It was absolutely not crowded, I saw very few other tourists which was further indicative of the unnecessary fear people have because of the revolution.
Yup, Egypt is real nice. Though check the political situation over there, seems to be really unstable lately.
The biggest attractions are:
- the pyramids in Giza
- Museum of Egypt
- Valley of Kings
- Jeep safari
- Bibliotheca Alexandrina
- also shopping at different stands, where merchants won't sell you a damn thing until you start bargaining with them
diving is also really nice.
the water is like this *below*

They don't let people inside pyramids. At least not into the major ones
How so? I would ask for a refund if i paid to see pyramids and they wouldn't let me in.

So you would be upset if they wouldn't let people wander around alone, unattended in some of most valuable ancient human made buildings ?

Well I recommend Thailand, but not the Pukhet crap, go to the north on a hicking trip, go along the Kwai river, eat fresh fruits near the malese border, and explore all the ancient capitals of the siamese empire!
Then go a few days indulge yourself in a swarm of ladyboys!
