for the past 6 months external HDs 2TB usb3 are around 130 euros, with no end in sight....
was 85 euros in november , i guess the articles are true that they wont get cheaper in the next 6 months since basicly 2 manufactures control the whole HD market.

did those companies recover from the floods in thailand yet?
i read that they won't go into full production until late this year, i dont think we will see price change until 1st or 2nd quarter of 2013

Production is back to normal. They are not looking to return to lower prices and are just enjoying more profit now.
Funding HDD advancement was used as their reason for keeping prices high.

Give them a year to make some profit, then the prices willl drop. I never witnessed a case of "base resource and/or production cheaper = product cheaper" scenario.

I think that's because 1TB is now considered small and outdated. You can get 3TB for like 140 euros. That's 3 times the space for only 40EUR more than 1TB. It's all about price/gb, and 1TB wasn't a good buy even before the flood.

i think USb3 speeds are not worth the hassle right now for 426PLN you get a 500GB USB3.0 thats 100EUR ....the crazy thing is for 542PLN you can get a Western Digital External USB2.0 7200rpm 2,5 TB and thats 128EUR... so for 28 euro more get 2tb more
the sad thing is only in 2011 before the flood this 2,5tb was only 400PLN .. fuck

Well, you guys just get fucked. I forgot what the prices were before the floods, but I just ordered a Seagate 2TB in USB 3.0 external and it only cost $120. As far as I recall, that price is on par with what external 1TB drives were before the flood.

Those dropping SSD prices should do something to the HDD prices as well. If they continue to drop like they are at the moment, in another year or two they might even compete with HDDs.
