Hamachi is basically a virtual network, think of those computers on the hamachi network you joined as being in your house plugged into your router (with some features disabled of course). Now when you and your friends are connected, you can start up a game and go into lan games and if someone on the network started a game, you'll see it. I believe Quake Wars has been made so it won't read games made with hamachi in mind unless the last person I tried didn't do something right BUT if you open up the console (alt+ctrl+ ~ or if you used my file I posted on the last post of the last page just hit ~) and type in "connect ipaddresshere" without the parentheses then it should connect to the server.
The link to the autoexec is in my sig btw, the directions come with it.

I've been playing the TF2 beta for a while and let me tell you, there is usually no strategy, just medics and heavy/soldier going in teams. Sometimes there will be a guy shouting orders in voice chat, but people don't really listen to him much. I'd say if you want strategy and TF2, join a clan, I'm assuming they would work in a team environment better than complete strangers.
QW pretty much requires team work, plus the maps are so big that going solo isn't a good idea anyway. I've only played bots though, so can't say about online play, not buying this game myself until UT3 comes out, then I'll pick the better of the two.

Strategy is forced alot better in TF2 then in ET:QW, the immediate advantage the game has is how quickly people adapt to the strategies in TF2 and make the public experience alot better. Its clear there are obvious tactics but there are quite a huge amount of different strategies.

Connect through your offline profile, go to lan, direct connect, then put in the IP:port.
I'm in the UK and get a ping of about 60-70. The servers in France.
It's only bots vs bots atm, but when more people join...there'lll be more people! I think its 16 players, too.
