Why is anybody surprised?
This is going to be Splinter Cell Conviction 2 with all its highs and lows, as most of us expected.
Again we get this fast paced modern "predator-stealth" aka Batman.
Some of the levels in the prequel were amazing though, the Funfair level is still one of the most beautiful and detailed to this date.

At least Conviction was dirung the night, there is lights to be broken ,shadows etc...If you want you can play stealth and darkness contribute a little for atmosphere from previous games. But here....desart,during the day...

They also had daytime levels in Splinter Cell 4 and dawn/dusk missions as early as SC2.
Ubi PR already confirmed that we still get Nighttime levels.
The sexy panther guy said in the Spike interview that you have an Airplane as base and travel all around the world to various missions, day and night.
I have to agree though, Daytime stealth works better with crowds and hiding in plain sight, I'd rather have the sneaking parts in the dark.

This game looks so bad.
Conviction can almost pass as a Splinter Cell game, this is very far from it.

i think you're missing the point
you CAN be a one man army in nearly all stealth games
just because you have a gun doesn't mean you have to use it
just because they promote the game like call of doody, doesn't mean you have to play it as such

They said that about Conviction too.
And it was a herpa derpa corridor shooter, where stealth was a gimmick rather than a main part of the game.
Sure, you could still hide in shadows, but when the mission structure, levels design and gameplay mechanics all scream pew pew pew, kinda hard to get excited about moving bodies.
And I read that post from the Community manager about how old fans of Splinter Cell shouldn't lose hope just because they saw the action packed trailers.
That's just a too big leap of faith he's asking. Based on past experience, new footage, no Ironside, how they expect us to keep believing in this long dead franchise is a mystery to me.

from what i have seen of this *game*... tom clancy should have told them "conviction was enough derp with my name on it... let splinter cell die"... kinda the same thing Michael Ironside musta been thinking, seeing as its some other guy doing sam's voice now..
i thought conviction killed my love of this game series.... but conviction at least had stealth, from what i have seen of blacklist, sam IS a one man army... he doesnt even need a NANOsuit LOL |
lol you dont know
Calancy basically sold his name to Ubisoft to use as they see fit - obv he doesn't care what they use it for.

It was kinda funny force-circumventing the pre-planned pew pew pew gameplay in Conviction.
There was a Military base level and some 20 dudes in it, I think I spent three hours to stealth kill them all without firing a single shot or using mark&execute.

thought of starting a rant about the good old times but this
Quote: | If you want more of the same game, that's what replays and/or mods and maps are for. I still play Thief 2: The Dark Age, and I've not completed even half of the maps out for that atm.
Actually, I still play games from the dawn of time, like Covert Action (not finished that 100% either, 20 years later).
This is the phenomenon known as "evolution".
Sometimes, it births a mutant baby that shoulda been aborted, as well as the next generation of genius. And lots of stuff in between. |

We need to petition Ubisoft to make a PC port of the old Splinter Cell 4.
It was so awesome when I played it on the Xbox but I only had a shitty tube television.

Not the better Xbox version. It is a lot more like Chaos Theory vs the crap we got on Next Gen. Even story is different.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/11/maxime-beland-on-the-ghosts-and-panthers-of-splinter-cell-black/
Interview with Maxime Retard.
Oh lord.
1. Retard claims that "Sam doesn't have an age". Oh, but he has. He was born in 1957, it was written in the fucking manual of the first game.
2. The idea of the director of a clandestine agency working in the field is beyond absurd. Yeah, call that UAV Grim, while me, your boss and employer with the (probable) access to most secret documents about the US, am going to risk my life in the field.
3. Retard claims that there are 3 player archetypes they had in mind when they designed the game- Ghost, Panther and Action. Ghost means not killing anyone at all, Action is going full guns-blazing with blind-fire and frag grenades, Panther is killing using stealth like Mark&Execute.
Great stuff, except Splinter Cell was never about fucking KILLING.
4. And the retarded money mechanic. Jesus fucking Christ. 3rd (now 4th) Echelon was funded by the government, but now 4th Echelon will be earning money by KILLING BAD GUYS. Or killing 3 bad guys with a frag grenade etc.
5. Why the hell don't they just call the game Blacklist? Huh? Why do they have to throw the Splinter Cell title on it? Any true SC fan won't buy this garbage, are they just thinking "Ohh, let's throw the SC title on it so maybe we can trick a whole bunch of suckers into thinking this game actually has something to do with the SC series they knew and loved."?
Label this game Kiddie Cell, get it an E rating and sell it to kids. You'll sell more! No self respecting adult or SC fan will buy this!

The game was set up for people to do either depending on what you chose to do. So I don't think it's accurate to say it is entirely and purely stealth.
Believe it or not the game isn't always about scoring. Some just want to, well, putting it very basically, kill the enemy and get to the end, they don't care about score or how they get there.
At the end of the day the basic objective is to kill and get to the end. Splinter Cell allowed to do that in a variety of ways but of course the majority emphasis was on stealth. That's a far cry from saying the game was completely and wholly about stealth.....especially when you were actually asked what style of mission you wanted. |
lol, wut?
Splinter Cell (at least the ones that matter, til Chaos Theory) were designed in a way that you could sneak your way till the end of the map 90% of the time, with only a few knockdowns needed. Only very, very, veeerrry few times you really NEED to kill someone, and when it happens it happens to progress the story.

I'm not sure, but I think that I had only one kill in the first game, and that was the last guy (I really do not remember the name, I know you had to snipe him in his office or something like that).

killing is integral in the game and the game a very legitimate way to proceed, unless it was stricktly enforced in some levels where it was stealth only. Just because you think it's the way it should be played does mean everyone else should/has too/is meant to...especially when developers given you the legitimate option to play it how you want. |
Yeah, but then again you could argue that any Hitman game post-H2:SA is an FPS, because you can just pop F1 and play it in first person, guns blazing.
That doesn't mean that the game was supposed to be played that way, and that is PRECISELY why you've got a stealth rank in Hitman games and stealth rating in SC.
There were only a few missions in the whole SC series that you were required to kill someone. Otherwise, as an elite operative of NSA (that would deny your existence if you were ever found) your purpose was to gather intelligence and get out. Now sure, even Sam mentions that a choice between leaving a witness and leaving a body is not a choice at all, but if there's any stealth game that I could call purely stealth, it would be Splinter Cell.
