I'm just now getting to play this proper. I'm on the last island, did absolutely fucking everything, that I could up to now (cunning of 8, thievery of 105), and I have this to say:
The game is good, I'd rate it at 9, if it wasn't for the utter shitty combat. I know, why they decided to go this way, and I could write a pretty long analysis as to why this combat is inferior in every way to the combat of Risen 1.
That being said, I got used to the combat, and enjoyed the exploring a whole fucking lot, but claiming this is similar to g3 in size is absurd.

Wut?! Is included in the original SkidRow release and the dialogue files are in the cracked patch from SkidRow.
If you want to buy it, it's available on Steam.

Is this game better than the first Risen? I wanted to try it for some time, but there are very mixed reviews, the main flaw being the combat system. Is it really broken or just hard to get used to?

I wouldn't call it better than Risen (the first half atleast), but it's enjoyable.

I hope they didn't include the beginning of the game in that demo, because otherwise it will scare people away instead of attracting new customers

RPGCodex, where you learn that something you really like sucks. Wouldn't be RPGCodex without the hate.

The reviewer is too dramatic but he has good points imo. It's just strange PB took this road after Risen. They just disregarded a very solid basis and tried to re-invent the wheel again.

I do not understand the "Developed before/after release" distinction for DLC. People just seem to feel entitled to something they are not. The company can sell you 10% of the game and the rest in DLC format if it wants. Where does this notion that the box price gives you access to everything the developer has done in the past several years come from?
