I liked the game till I encountered flying enemies. It's just horrible to hit them properly. Rest of the combat and bosses I've encountered were a cakewalk, then u get some flying mobs and u have to jump like a donkey to get a hit.

Ys: Origin is now on Steam for 15.99 Euro.
(Or 19.99 USD)

EDIT: Theta will probably be releasing a version of this shortly judging by their releases of the previous Ys game but that's nothing more than a guess.
(Skidrow will maybe do something too?)

This is just the 2005 Win JP release translated and cheevos§!!11 added. Sadly it's not the enhanced PSP version, but oh well... this is PC gaming, should hardly expect any kind of effort to be put into games these days.

whats the difference between the oath pc and psp version?

and is ys origin the same as ys chronicle I & II ?

The PC version is the best. It runs with better framerate and resolution, it's not missing some blood effects and it doesn't have the awful voice-acting from the PSP version.

Ys: Origin is a PC exclusive. It's set hundreds of years before Ys I & II.

Try "Ys VI - The Ark of Napishtim"
But you need the Update 1109 ( ys6_1109.exe ) and the English Translation Patch v1109 ( YsVI_Eng_v1109only_final )

Seems Ali213 and 3DM now have this uploaded at their sites but I guess it's just the game files for now and thus isn't cracked or otherwise modified. Smile
(Plus it's untranslated I guess, most of it anyway.)

I have the ali213 version installed, but as you said there's no crack yet. Regarding the translation, I guess it wouldn't be too difficult using the PSP english text on the PC version.

Not everybody is down on Windows 8. JRPG pioneer Falcom is re-releasing four titles from its flagship franchise on Microsoft's new OS. While the games are currently available through various outlets online, digital distribution hasn't quite caught on in Japan like it has in the West.

Ys Origin, Ys I&II Chronicles, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim are coming to Windows 8 on March 22 for 3,990 yen (roughly $44) apiece. Of course, thanks to the efforts of XSEED, you can safely enjoy several games from the Ys series on PlayStation Portable and PC without dealing with that "catastrophe."

I'm playing Ys Origin right now. Having a blast. Very Happy Honestly, I didn't expect I would like this game so much.

After 8 hrs I'm halfway up the tower.

Boss fights are what truly stands up IMO - they are great and demanding. First you have to find proper tactics, then execute them with as little mistakes as possible. Nothing new but done really well. Every fight is different, every fight is interesting. I never felt like I lost because the game had been cheating. You're either good and you win, or you suck and you lose.

EDIT: Fixed the thumbnail. Wink

I'm playing Ys 1 or rather I was playing it, was caught unprepared when a escort mission appeared early on and the NPC died due to low initial health (Monsters spawn in really quick.) so I lost all progress since I had forgotten to save, actually I was looking for save shrines but it seems they use a different method here. Very Happy

Good game though, has been updated two times so far but I don't know what they patched.
(They keep patching the Ys Origin and Oath in Felghana regularly as well.)

If you mean Ys I & II Chronicles+, maybe they have patched the configs. Previously, no matter what I did, the games were always starting in 1024x768. (Edit: Of course I mean the RLD release.)

As for Ys Origin, I'm using 'Ys.Origin.Update.3-RELOADED'; had only one crash thus far. (Right after difficult boss battle, before I have managed to save. Twisted Evil Laughing)

There's also 'Ys.The.Oath.in.Felghana.Update.4-RELOADED' for those using the yarr version.

Ys Origin was last updated 4th January 2013
Ys Oath in Felghana on February 13th
Ys 1 Plus updated 18th February

And Ys 2 Plus on February 19th

Mostly smaller fixes but they rarely post the full changes.

EDIT: Ys 2 just updated again.

Story wise Origin is the first then Ys 1 and Ys 2 followed by Oath.
(Having played Origin I kinda recognized a few characters in Ys 1 though the gameplay mechanics were a bit different.)

Ys 1 and 2 have two different modes as well though both are a re-make from the original version back in 1988 or somewhere around that.
