works fine. you need to block the exe in firewall outbound rules section before starting the game.

The game updated, I assume among other things that global illumination now works as intended.

EDIT: Yeah it now works, hardware config version is bumped from 61 to 62 so it's reset but I finished re-tweaking stuff.
(Higher shadows, better LOD, barely noticeable but might as well use it.)

EDIT: From that benchmark option.

Config
 Spoiler:

(2x MSAA only but 4096 shadow resolution and 2048 env. map resolution with LOD at 2.0 instead of 1.5)

(Overall considering that the game is already quite demanding and what I've tweaked I'm pretty impressed plus 16x AF is forced along with alpha AA.)

Jb,

How come the game runs so "badly" with your PC Uber specs ?
I mean WTF !? mininum: 30fps average: 42fps for 5 years old graphics, tiny closed environments, no dynamic car's damage, no serious car's physics, and FFB wich should be called "vibrationzzzzzz"

Damn, I played the demo, didn't even thought about trying the ISO demo.
What have they done to the Dirt series ?
I loved the first one, but it became worst on each sequel ...

Sad

I tried to clarify it a bit but if you were to try with global illumination on and with similar tweaked high-res shadows and you'll see just how demanding the game gets, GI is the most demanding option that the game offers followed by shadows. Smile
(I am a bit bad at explaining things in a good way so suffice to say I am surprised how good the game ran at those settings as I expected it to go down to low 20's or even worse for framerate.)

Getting shadows back to default ultra, turning off GI and possibly also scaling back the tweaks to LOD and environment map resolution the game would probably run two - three times faster.
(I just like to tweak stuff to see what I can accomplish, it's not required at all for playing the game comfortable but it was a fun test.)

EDIT: Oh right, GI will take a 50% or higher performance hit on it's own as well.
(If you do a screen overlay compare you might see a subtle difference but at high speed racing it's nearly unnoticeable.)

(I read a post about a person with a SLI 680 setup testing it and he got between 30 and 50 FPS with it enabled and over 100 with it disabled.)

EDIT: So obviously the patch didn't optimize or change much with that particular option but you no longer need to tweak the config file to enable it.
(Wonder why it was disabled in the first place if it wasn't due to performance concerns, I thought that was it after reading people forcing that option on and it taking half the framerate off or more while being so subtle it's actually hard to notice outside of still comparison images.)

EDIT: Here, I disabled it but I kept the LOD, AF and adaptive AA.

Ok I see, GI is a nice effect but too expensive in performance if you ask me Wink

thx

DiRT.Showdown.Update.v1.2-BAT
Quote:
This release also fixes a known crack issue with the
FLT release. In some cases random menus strings were
changed to... hmm... let's just say it was clearly
visible that you were playing pirated version of the
game).

We couldn't find a changelog anywhere for this update,
but it supposedly increases the performance of the
game.

There was a Steam announcement about it but I couldn't find the article itself, restart the client and it should pop up unless you've already closed it.
(I got two so I had to browse past the first one and then I saw it.)

Anyways it's being given as a pre-order bonus for Grid: Autoport.

EDIT: Answered in the above post. Smile
