Apparently, they do this through the Apple store. ATM I'm in the process of downloading, ripping, and converting to AAC a whole lot of music...

Do you actually believe you are getting a free Ipod?

Why the fuck would I buy one if UPS is dropping a complementary one off at my doorstep.
PS. It doesn't take 2 years. I started maybe a year ago (I don't remember the exact date), then for maybe 4 months I posted the link on forums (it was my sig here at one time), put it on Slashdot, etc...
This got me 4 sign-ups and 0 valid referrals.
Then I had an idea: I printed half-page flyers (the kind used for apartments, etc... attatched to bulletin boards and the like) and, having printed 50 or so of them, went around a few blocks of my neighborhood and put them up. Within a week or so, all of the flyers were gone (they had the tear-off pieces of paper at the bottom but those ran out so people just took down the whole damn thing.)
Over the next 2 weeks I got about 10 signups and 1 or 2 referral, so I was still 3 short... So I said "screw it" and moved on to other things. About 2 and a half weeks ago something reminded me of the site, so checking back I realized I had to the magnitude of 40 signups and 9 valid referrals. So I sent if off for processing and now I'm getting this shipped...
The only downside of this deal:

For some people, $250 is a movie and dinner on an average Friday night. For others, $250 is something they'd have to work full-time for several months to amass (as expendable income). For a broke, unemployed soon-to-be college student, a $250 iPod is a godsend... Now if only they'd start one of these things for a video card and some ram...

I'm glad for you Accelleron.
I honestly do not think anyone here would say 'no' to a free Ipod.
Most of the reactions are derivatives of jealousy.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

A pyramid scheme. Now your friends have to sign up 5 others to get an ipod. What did they sign up for?

Not if you (or your parents) are upper-class, no...
But tbh I don't think my dad has $250 to spend on an iPod either... and since working for probably a couple of months (once you factor in paying my cell phone bill, food, transportation to/from work, and some light entertainment) to amass this kind of money really blows compared to just having it fall in your lap, I really am happy for it.
fisk, cartoon just doesn't quite understand that some people don't always have $500 in spare change to buy whatever they wish. He comes from a high-income setting, and there's nothing wrong with that. He just never had experience with not having relatively small (for him) amounts of money readily available to spend. As for jealously, anyone who's been reading this thread and is jealous of me is a fucking moron. I laid out for you the best way (that I had to come up with on my own) to get the thing without much interaction with e-marketing (search site placement, etc.) If you want one, USE it! It took me about 5 hours of work altogether (research, making a site, printing and posting flyers) and a couple of weeks to a couple of months of doing absolutely nothing. Some people argue that doing this is like working for below minimum wage... well, if $50/hour is below minimum wage, I think the economy's doing pretty damn good overnight.

Counter in the number of hours wasted inwhich you could of gotten a job (part time) to pay for it.. say, 10 hours to begin with ($50), 10/20 hours printing, designing, thinking of the poster idea ($50/100).. putting posters up and checking on them.. 10 hours ($100).. Checking the website every 2 secconds for 50+ weeks.. 5 hours ($25)... you just made $275 ..
*shrugs* Your helping spam companies find addresses and getting paid about 100 times less than it would cost them to go out and buy addresses!
Well done, but I can see better ways of getting things.. plus, IPODS are gay (before you start doing the "BUT YOU WOULDNT SAY NO".. of course I wouldn't but this ISNT free. Free is giving someone an address to ship it too and thats it, you wasted a lot of time that could of been spent more wisly earning yourself more than an Ipod)

If it was so free and easy it takes 5 referrals to a £10 sign up or whatever. If you were smart enough you could spend £60 and have a "free" ipod. for this reason alone i dont think its that good. and yes they do spam email boxes and they refer a LOT to you. thats why you use a "backup" address though

Nope... Spent maybe 1-2 hours checking out the offer
[sYn] wrote: | 10/20 hours printing, designing, thinking of the poster idea ($50/100) |
Doesn't count, not like I was sitting in a controlled environment thinking of it... just keeping it in the back of my mind as I went about doing everyday things. Designing took the lion's share of the work, but it was done in about 20 minutes using MS Word and photoshop to resize.
[sYn] wrote: | putting posters up and checking on them.. 10 hours($100).. |
Took me an hour maybe, I just did a main street and 4 blocks in circumference. Never even thought of checking them unless I was walking by the area.
[sYn] wrote: | Checking the website every 2 secconds for 50+ weeks.. 5 hours ($25)... |
Like I said, I forgot about the site. That's why I turned in the thing when I had 9 referrals and not 5.
[sYn] wrote: | you just made $275 .. |
Hardly... There were barely 5 hours of actual action involved, stretched over a month (maybe) plus some passive waiting. Not at all like working in an employed environment. Compare the difference between, for example, photoshopping Sin's avatar onto the attention whore image, and professional web design. Both use photoshop, but the reasons and the environment during production are a lot in favor of the casual photoshop.
The whole project was experimental. Now that it paid off, though, I am going into this field with the same strategy to get everything I possibly can out of it
[sYn] wrote: | *shrugs* Your helping spam companies find addresses and getting paid about 100 times less than it would cost them to go out and buy addresses! |
I'm giving them addresses of random people, whom I don't give a fuck about, and who are consentingly typing them into the website. *shrugs*, indeed...

I'm going after this beastie a lot more aggressively now. Next 2 marks are a PSP and a laptop. Same tactic, except I'm going to expand the flyer distriution to several different neighborhoods (instead of just 2 blocks away from my house) and I'm planning to use a full pack (500 sheets) between the three (that's 1000 flyers). If 50 got me 9 refferrals, I could get as many as 180 from 1,000. Realistically speaking, this'll take some more time but a new lappie and a PSP are worth around $2k, so I'm willing to clock that now that I know this is real.

Err... reality really doesn't work that way.
If you're willing to pay $275 for doing that, then please do. I just took a shit, is that worth $50? - Fuck man! If the world worked like you imagine it it, money would be worth: [nothing]. |
Fisk, you missed the point . Taking a shit isnt wasting time, because it has to be done. Walking around putting posters up doesnt, so by not doing it, you can spend that time earning actual money.
Plus the post was not meant in a litteral sense, it was mearly an outlook of "what could happen".. Oh, and I get paid $50 an hour for every hour overtime I do for my job, so yeah, sometimes reality is like that

You do realize that you don't earn money by just "spending time earning actual money". First of all, you have to get a job (Which is damn hard in some countries, (ie. Sweden)), secondly you have to be at work doing it, thirdly - the activity has to be chosen by someone else, I hardly believe you'll earn $275 for putting up papers... if there is, I'd love to get that job (lol).
"What could happen" within the aspect of probability, is that you wouldn't be paid squat for doing what Accelleron did, neither with his time, or his activity.
He earned a free Ipod for doing it though, that's a heck of a lot more than what other people earn doing whatever (ie. posting on this forum).

you still havent grasped the post ..
I was stating that the time he spent doing squat should of been spent GETTING A JOB, DOING THAT JOB and earning money from that REAL job. So saying things like :
"the activity has to be chosen by someone else, I hardly believe you'll earn $275 for putting up papers... if there is, I'd love to get that job (lol)."
has no real meaning in this conversation - If you dont get it now, ermm.. oh well *shrugs*
:edit: god I swear im dislexic sometimes, I cant spell for shit and I ALWAYS leave letters and words out of posts !
