Yeah.
I still remember the first time I've played OFP, that solo mission that you had just to steal a car, and I was always dying because I was playing the game like any other ordinary FPS. I gave up the game, at the time. I wait another month until I played back again, and I insisted until I was able to finish it. After that I was ready to play OFP.

And when in the middle of the campaign, I don't remember anymore the name of the mission, me and my platoon arrived in a village, supposedly to be evacuated, and suddenly we felt surrounded and pinned down by enemy troops, it was only at that time that I was able to saw the full dimension of the game. I've watched all my platoon members being killed and didn't know what to do. Just wanted to get the hell out of there. The game didn't give me any instruction. I saw a car but that was too open and I could be seen, so I decide to run to the nearest grove and was able to escape that way. I finished that mission in a complete state of awe. The incredible and the illusion of a open world has just been created perfectly. I was that character in a way that I haven't been able to do in any other game.

And it's like Interinactive said, you feel like being part of the game.
A simple thing like using the editor, adding a unit soldier and a vehicle in Chernaus (for example), hit the preview button, and just ride all through the island without any kind of barriers and corridors stopping you, except the ones imposed by the physical laws, it's a memorable experience.

Yea, this reminds me of the mission where you had to retreat to a forest and escape the russians to arrive to some resistance camp. That was sweet.
I literally crawled through most of it Very Happy

Good times, I think it was that mission when you're left alone in the enemy territory, with a broken radio, no vehicles, the rest of your squad been killed...and enemies coming in from all directions...damn, that was hardcore Smile

Yes. I think it was the same mission where gunship shot your truck into pieces and team got mauled by enemy forces.

It was fun around 1.5 - 2yrs ago when I did OFP + both expansions again in the ARMA engine, I highly recommend it.

And don't forget the new version for ArmA2:

Jahlux: They've already talked about the animations not too long ago. Should be improved.

At least they've got proper night lighting now.

I bet it's going to need a beast of a computer to run smooth AND look pretty. Smile

lighting was the same in A1 and A2.. they just adjusted the hdr engine to detect light levels better, but it's still shit
A3 lighting on the other hand look great
look at that shot of the car lights in the night
you can see other stuff on the screen now
in A1 and A2 all you see is the white of the car lights

ARMA screen's always look good, but in actual game there are more pressing matters.
They need to focus on the animations/ smoother movement etc + the UI. After this they can go for the effects destruction smoke explosions lights, whatever.

Still one of the best series around.

Covert Ops I guess. Laughing

EDIT: Ah it was part of the previous set of images already, should have enlarged them first. Very Happy
(It just focused on a lone diver initially but then the full image revealed the entire scene.)

Well I'm not a diver but wouldn't the air bubbles be visible from the water surface?
(Or if one of them farted, heh.)

EDIT: And yes it'll be nice to see mods updated to take advantage of all the features this new engine update offers. Smile
(It will be nice to see the game itself take advantage of these improvements of course.)

Well, I fit the minimum requirements, but I'm highly skeptical of the CPU. I have a Pentium D 3GHz (yeah, old piece of shit), and ARMA2 is sometimes unplayable if there are a ton of AI going around (unless they are simulated by the server of course). The second mission in the vanilla campaign, when there is a big battle going on in a town, that's barely even passable for me. I doubt they can squeeze anything remotely playable out of a dual 2.4Ghz.
