I guess we won't be seeing that mmo then. Not that it matters really.

I don't think that all the taxpayers money went to the development, but some was just laundered away

I was actually really looking forward to the mmo, assuming it was basically Amalur but multiplayer. The problem I find with most mmo's is the shitty combat, basically just pressing the number keys over and over, waiting for cooldowns to finish etc.
Amalur had a nice visceral and fluid combat system, akin to something like Devil May Cry, which actually requires some skill.
It's a shame that the mmo is likely not to see the light of day.

I couldn't care less for their MMO, but it's always sad when people lose their jobs and decent games don't pay off.

Likewise :S
Hopefully experienced people like them can get a new job soon enough, but still, it's indeed a shame.

So, who gets the money from the game sale from now on? Rhode Island? Shame to see them shut down, mostly because nearly 400 people lost their jobs, that sucks a lot, especially in this economy we have today.

I didn't really like the game that much, but still, it's sad to see things took a turn for the worst. Many people lost their jobs and that's always a bad thing.

Let's hope they pull a Troika and release it of their own volition.

What really bugs me is that games like CODMW23456 sell amazingly even though they are poorly made rehashes, and games like this (where combat was really fun mixing it up with warrior/sorcery) sell poorly. No wonder that we keep getting more crappy sequels than interesting/innovative new IP's.

No matter how generic the COD games might be, compare the first hour of any COD game with teh first hour of this one. If I didn't know anything about gaming, I'd choose COD over this too.

Amalur didnt sold that bad . I read about 1.5 copies but seems like they quite overfunded. 3 milion sold copies to be just profitable is really high number for new IP

But you're comparing apples and oranges there. Better to say "Compare the first hour of this with the first hour of Dragon Age 2". At which point, the only reason to favour DA2 is because of the Dragon Age brand.

He was saying COD games sold very well while such games didn't. I gave a possible explanation. I was not comparing quality of games (why would I take DA2 if I did?).

I wouldnt, but then I typically enjoy RPG's more than shooters, so I guess it depends on personal preference. Amalur is more vibrant and colorful, while COD is well...though I did enjoy Black Ops.

The general consumer would prefer an action packed six hour shooter instead of a fifty hour RPG which takes getting used to. Sadly, the majority rules.

IMO, main problem here ain't the poor sales, but astronomical costs. Amalur sold 1.2 mil copies in its first three weeks. If you consider the fact, that the game was sold a month or so before Mass Effect 3 and only a few months after both Skyrim and The Old Republic (which may be considered an RPG to some degree), this really isn't that much of a catastrophe - it's a beginning for a possibly popular franchise (as shown by Witcher 1 example). BUT, if a game, a new franchise, needs 3 mil copies sold to even start turning a profit - it's more or less destined to fail.

I strongly doubt there are any contractual obligations or restrictions preventing 38 or BHG from working on a patch in their own time ... so please, PLEASE release something after the fact!

If they really can't work on the patch, they should give the "wip" version to the community, so maybe we could have at least our Unofficial patch

there won't be a patch, the best solution is still that cheat engine mod. it took me 160 hours to beat the base game with that mod installed. still didn't even actiavte the DLC's.
had a ton of fun with this game. sad to see the studio going down.
