In general, Alan Wake's American Nightmare uses the same (albeit somewhat upgraded) engine than Alan Wake PC, and most same tips and tricks are relevant to both games. See these threads for more info:
Please read this FAQ to see if your problem has been solved already. You can also try to search this forum for solutions.
Verify your Steam cache. Choose Alan Wake's American Nigthmare -> Properties, open the Local Files tab and choose Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This can help if you encounter some file loading errors or game doesn't launch. It seems sometimes files can get corrupted during download.
Update your graphics card drivers. This solves 90% of remaining problems typically. AMD Driver download & NVIDIA Driver Download. Some people have reported that running a 3rd party program that completely cleans drivers out has helped as well - and has also solved many weird performance problems where the game is running too slowly.
Check that your graphics card is not overclocked, and your components stay cool enough. Alan Wake's engine seems to be good at revealing too aggressive overclocks ("it works in all other games").
If the game doesn't launch at all, you can try the following
delete resolution.xml from c:\users\<userid>\documents\Remedy\AmericanNightma re
try if the game runs in a window. Enter -w1280 -h720 -window to Steam's Alan Wake Properties->Set Launch Options
Try starting the game with -nosound parameter
If nothing helps, please post a forum thread to the American Nightmare Help and Issues board - we have an active community that likes to help, and have Remedy staff in hand to answer and help as well. Remember to add your computer information (OS, CPU, GPU is most relevant) or attach a dxdiag text file with the forum post.
COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
The game supports a few command line options meant mainly for troubleshooting. Warning: for advanced users only. Many of these options can be selected from in-game menus and we recommend doing that instead.
You can enter them by right clicking on Alan Wake's American Nightmare in the Steam Library and choosing Properties. From there go to "Set launch options".
-w screen width (e.g. -w1280)
-h screen height (e.g. -h720)
-window force windowed
-novsync disables v-sync
-showfps shows a frame rate counter on screen
-forcesurround forces 5.1 speaker mode
-forcestereo forces stereo (2 channel) speaker mode
-nosound disables sound
-cleancloud deletes your save games and settings from Steam Cloud
-sensscale (e.g. -sensscale=0.2) changes the mouse sensitivity scale slider in-game. Useful for some high DPI mice that feel way too sensitive even with the in-game menu set to low.
-locale=xx forces a selected locale. This should not be needed as you can change it from the Game Properties in Steam. Note that you have to have the locale files downloaded from Steam and that happens only when you choose the language you want to play in from Steam.
MULTI-GPU CONFIGS
SLI and Crossfire should both work. Both require profiles from Nvidia and AMD respectively. AMD Crossfire profile is not available at the time of writing, but you can use Alan Wake's Crossfire profile to easily create a custom CF profile for American Nightmare.
If you have problems getting SLI to scale even with the profile, please disable Steam overlay and try again.
GRAPHICS
Very Low setting
American Nightmare has a "Very Low" graphics setting, that disables some features that normally can't be disabled like MSAA and Grass rendering -- these two are dependent on each other, and thus they can't be normally disabled.
Overclocked and "Factory overclocked" graphics cards, heat and power
We've heard many reports of "occasional black screens", random crashes or computers shutting down that have been traced to overclocking or GPU overheating issues. The game does not cause computers to shut down or reboot - these are typically hard system failures and system shuts down to protect the components.
These issues have been solved in the end by down-clocking the graphics card. We recommend users try this first, this can typically be done in the graphics card drivers' control panel.
Another common issue causing weird graphics problems or computer behavior can be a power supply that's not powerful enough or beginning to fail.
AMD graphics - enabling AA in driver control panel may cause lighting in-game to break
AMD - Enabling AA through the Vision Engine Control Center (formerly Catalyst Control Center) may cause lighting in game to break. We recommend leaving the AA setting to be application controlled.
CONTROLS AND MISC
Direct Aiming
Are you a hard-core PC gamer and not happy with the standard camera control? Then try enabling the Direct Aiming option in the menus.
Unlocking Levels
You can unlock the episodes by specifying -developermenu command line parameter. There are no weapon cheats in the game.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Look nice, extremely "random" at times (like when the tower falls down with Club Foot playing in the background ), but I guess it could work, it's a crazy spin-off after all
It's a shame more people aren't buying this. It's currently languishing in the bottom half of the Steam top twenty.
To be fair when the game was announced on STEAM it was on like 3rd place, but yeah the game is good, a little bit more arcade-ish than the first one but still very enjoyable .A lot of people should buy it,the game itself is very chep but tons of fun. Remedy have my full support on every project they make so...
