- Story, what story? That was the weakest thing I have ever seen attempted in a video game. Then you finish it... erm... ending? Closure to anything? Nup, wrap it up in a few seconds then stick you back into the grind fest.
- The art direction was nice. Pitty it didn't feel like a horrifying world overrun with demons, in a way, it felt more like Torchlight. Diablo + the other bosses weren't scary/terrifying in the least. The semi-realistic art direction of D2 was infinitely better. Better than Lollypop Rainbow Land.
- I had explored every inch of the world, every dungeon, cracked every barrel and so on. Act 4 was incredibly quick. I did the last 2 acts tonight in a single sitting and the boss fights were laughable. Hit + run + hit + run.
- The Auction house... there goes any reason to care, new players will probably wonder what all the fuss is about when you can simply buy anything, when real money hits it'll be more effortless for people with more dollars than brain cells. *You don't have to use it* - no shit. It doesn't make it any less of a crutch for people to lean on because they're lazy.
- Random dungeons felt cheap. No handcrafted goodness, just a bunch of generated paths and models slapped together.
- The need to be online - self explanatory with the problems it has created. I'd much rather an offline mode, so that if I or anyone else did cheat, it wouldn't have mattered. At least it would have been better than a ping fluctuating from 200ms - 2000ms, without COOP partners who skip conversations/cinematics who also just run through areas like they can't enjoy the game for anything other than picking up yellow/blue/purple loot. I don't know what people like that get out of games. Seriously.
Now that it's done, I have zero motivation to do it again. Perhaps for the challenge (and weeks from now, If I'm extremely bored), but I don't see any other reason. To get better equipment? What for? Is the story elaborated on on your other play throughs? So what if you get better equipment? What's it for? To sell? Unless people start making real money, I can't see the appeal, and even then, what a shit way to 'enjoy' a game. I wonder how long it will stay popular for.
It was nice they kept it somewhat the same (even then...), but I can't see how they actually improved on or added anything inline with the original idea, nothing that would warrant 10 freaking years.
Grim Dawn can't come fast enough. |
You do realize that half of your complains are a "problem" of the genre and not of Diablo 3. You wont get a story from Grim Dawn (did you play TQ?), you won't get handcrafted dungeons, the campaign is not gonna last 100+ and you won't get an endless endgame that is not based on "boring" loot.
I do agree the semi-realistic graphic design of grim dawn is more appealing, despite the brilliant artwork from Diablo 3, i agree the AH breaks one of the most important parts of the game and that the online DRM is a plague.
Having a blast playing Diablo 3, alone and with friends and since i love the genre, Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn are more than welcome additions (despite my not so good impressions of T2 beta)

Don't know what Grim Dawn is but I agree 100% with you.
The cinematics look so awesome and you're led to believe there is this great evil and shit's about to get real bad and then they stick you into those cartoony graphics. I understand that's about style and vision, but the two just don't match up.
The boss fights are indeed silly. As you said, click and run. No variation to it at all. It's been 12 yrs so surely there's been some innovation?
The auction house totally fucks the game. The whole point of repeat play-thrus is ruined by it. It literally changes the way the game is played and not for the good, I think.
And there's so much crap that drops anyway, 99% of it is useless. All but about 4 rare items i've gotten in the last 3 days were garbage. Probably picked up a few dozen of them total.

i dont understand, how the AH breaks anything.
In D2, we used trade channels, trade games.
People who wanted to spend real money, they used one of the many third party sites available.
Bit for bit the same.
You think AH breaks your game , well
DONT USE IT.

Seems the shitty drops are because of once Blizzard wanting you to use real money in it. Even though I could be making this up, it will definitely break PVP, with "rich people" buying imba gear vs poor people like us nfohump guys.

That's true, but people are always tempted to go the easy route. And since it's convenient people will use it for gearing up instead of replaying levels to farm. What's worse is that you end up killing a boss that drops a good item but since you already farmed the AH the item is null and that lovely feeling of reward is lost.
But yes, don't use the AH if you can resist. I've used it when i found how cheap the items were and quickly realized i was breaking the enjoyment of loot. Now i just trade with my friends.

I will try to play the game without using AH I wonder how far I will get at higher difficulties. The drop rate is so weak that the game tempts you to use it. "Look, here is that sword that will help you beat act I on Hell! Come on it's only 18k gold".

+1
as I said, most of the arguments against Diablo 3 gameplay/graphics are weak, there is nothing "fanboy" to claim this.

Dear Blizzard, fuck you.
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.
I have no idea what happened, how it happened, but I got kicked from the game with the error that another computer started the game with the same account.
By the time I was done with the account recovery, all my items, all my gold was gone, and I was back at Tristram.
Now I have a lvl 17 character with no gear whatsoever, attempting to kill Magda.
Fuck you Blizzard very much.

convenient = easier. that's how it ruins the game. think of it like this - before eBay blew up years ago I had a comic collection that wasn't awesome but was worth a little. after ebay went big, some years later i checked it again. the value was nothing because the supply was greater. it ruined the value of what i had by making it more readily available.
so when you grind for a day or whatever and get what you think is some super cool ring or amulet that is rare, then look in the AH and there it is, listed 500 times, then you aren't going to get as much for it and also it takes away some of the "magic" of having found it.
anyway what is that you're using that has the green #'s flashing over you?
