I don't think either PS3 or Live rules permit and online-only game.
... Oh wait, but there is no piracy or hacking on consoles, so it's all good.

A lot of people will be very pissed if they do port it to consoles and make it offline.

Blizzard claims that always-online drm PREVENTS such issues in the first place |
They don't, that's misinformation.
Its meant to prevent hacking of the game (duping gold, duping gear, making characters invincible, ect).
They don't claim that it protect accounts from hackers, because they can't protect accounts from negligent players.
The only benefit it has for hacked account is that it makes it easier for them to rollback your characters to before you were hacked, since they keep a history of your activity.
---
And on the subject of authenticators : they're not infallible. You can still be victim of keyloggers.
The best one intercepts your code, sends the wrong one to Blizzard (giving an error), and sends the real one to the hacker.
Any code you generate remains active for about 30 seconds, it's plenty of time for someone else to log on your account.
In regard to the players on the forum : I don't think it's Blizzard being hacked. It could be the case, but I think there's 2 more likely scenarios :
1) They were all simply infected already, before the game was released, and the hackers simply waited until the game was released to pounce. Just wait a few days, let them get items, and then steal them all.
Since many people hacked suddenly find themselves friend with a stranger, it could be very well be the case.
2) Server snafu. The servers lost information on the characters and fucked everything up, in a bug even worse than the Templar/Demon Hunter case.
This also wouldn't be surprising at all, since some players find themselves getting various bugs when playing their characters after this strange "attack".
And that would be one more reason joining the long list of "why it's a bad idea to force online-only on players".
Only thing for sure : that doesn't make me feel safe about my own characters, at all.

Look i LIKE this game
I have always loved Blizz games
this is a different animal
why the fuck are we getting all this "it's your fault" bullshit?
is the cult of blizzard as strong as the cult of Apple?
If it was ANY other developer this would be CRUCIFIED online
my mind boggles

Yeah the items are pissing me off a bit as well. It's readily obvious that they made it that way on purpose so people would be more inclined to waste $ on the auction house. I can't tell you how many times i've tried crafting a rare item for my withdoctor and every time I craft I roll strength or dexterity, or if I do finally roll intelligence I get the bottom end of the roll so the item is shit anyways.

its supposed to be shit, so when you get lucky and get good one, you actually happy, we had way too many rpgs in last 5 years, where you could change your gear twice.. whole game, lets not even start with dlc gear,
and if you always got afixes for your class.. str/vitality for barb and so on 24/7 that would be shity too, oh look +3 stats.. okkkkkkkkk, legendary have proper stats tho, so yuou dont find +200 of every stat on them

The problem with legendary though is that equivelant level rares can potentially be better if they rolled good on all the stats. Legendary should be the best regardless.

doubt that, seriously doubt lvl 60 legendaries will be beating by rares, and untill that , you wont have even 1/3 of good rares equiped, not to mention legendaries, to have such issue, unless you mass buy in auction house, i have only one 33 legendary it beats all rares by far at its level

I enjoy Diablo 3. The always-online server stuff has only annoyed me twice in the 30 hours or so that I've played. I can live with it.
The only annoying part so far is everyone wanting to play together, but there's only 4 people in a party... that means the 6 of us have to rely on 2 people not wanting to play on any given day. Which is likely, but... then we're all at different levels and parts of the game, so it's kind of frustrating. Would be nice to be able to just have more people in a game and having a character for when we're ALL around. We keep ending up having to make new characters for our various combinations of people that are around at the time.
To me that's more annoying than always online. When I play I'm ALWAYS ONLINE playing with other people I know anyway.

Haha, it's indeed sad and funny at the same time . The whole online thingy is almost as retarded as Blizzard's presumption..almost.

If this is suddenly happening to SO MANY people it can't all be their fault. Blizzard needs to investigate this.
