k so im home... in a state of shock... i know what shock should look and feel like cause i seen it a million times, but never personally...
was turning left on an intersection and somehow didnt see a lady crossing.... it was a pretty slow hit she rolled off my hood.... paramedics released her and she didnt wanna go to hospital...
i felt high and numb... in slow motion... hands feel weak and powerless... takes great effort just to type this... horrible feeling... im so glad she is ok which was the most important thing... but now she will sue and that'll cost me a good 15-20000 bux which is basically my savings and also cancels out my transfer request to this other police department for ATLEAST 3 years... maybe more....
over all one second everything was happy.... next worst terror of life... atleast i have a new appreciation for people i encounter in traffic accidents now.

well... i hit her and she rolled off my hood... i jumped out calling 911 and stuff and this pedestrian came out screaming at me saying " wtf are u blind u should be in jail you fucking asshole" and so on for liek a good minute was yelling at me... i didnt say anything i was just worried about her... so she personally was nice like i went up to her towards the end and i apologixed and she smiled and said i accept your apology and just becareful next time BUTTTTTTT
the cops who responded were my buddies, so they told me she wrote a report saying how she was ok and didnt need anything (she was walking and stuff) but then once her family got there and that angry witness pulled her aside she came back and asked to revise her report... adding that now she had sever pains all over and cant walk and blabla...
now because she refused hospital and ride in ambulance her case is damaged but from what i KNOW this has all the ear marks of a civil lawsuit coming down the line... i would guess 15-20 grand range...

At least no one was seriously hurt.
In the UK this would all be handled by your car insurance provider, you wouldn't have to lift a finger. And your insurance would cover all the costs.

Max - Insurance will pay for it. One accident only brings you up one tier, and if you have had safe driving before that you should be OK. The amount of the claim, for injuries, has no bearing on how much your insurance will increase. That is how it works in BC anyway.
Mistakes happen. That is why they are called mistakes. This is not going to ruin your life. Just be grateful that she wasn't seriously hurt. Everybody pads and exaggerates claims for more money. Happened to me too. Also that guy getting up and all emotional in your face in normal too.
---It just makes you feel like crap but it will work out in the end.

Well, it's a modern-world disease. You are not allowed to make a single mistake. Why were insurances invented? To allow people to make mistakes and share the inherent risk. We pay with 1000 people a premium. 1 house burns down, the house is paid for by 999 other people who paid a premium but never had their house burned down. Just gives you a level of comfort.
It's just extreme right wing bullcrap. 'You have to pay for your own damage'. Nice society that will become... Asocial, individualistic, arrogant people. Oh wait, that's where we already are...
All big supporters of 'paying for your own damage' until it happens to them and they can pay the full damage.
I remember having a minor accident with my rental car Ford couple of years ago in usa. The car in front of me was a big SUV (also rental car) and I hit the guy in front of me. He had almost no damage, but my bumper was on the ground (it's Ford after all ). The guy gets out and asks me where I am from. And I answer 'Belgium'. And he starts a tirade 'in this country, you pay for your own damages. It ain't like socialist europe. Blablablalbablaba. I am a lawyer from Michigan, i will sue you. blablabablablba.'
So i answer, dude, this is California, you are responsible for your own rental car damage. I could smash your windscreen and you'd have to pay it. I signed off for a CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and 3PDW (3rd party personal damage waiver). I won't have to pay shit. So, now you stop whining and you better full out the collision report to have your own damage covered. So the guy gets nervous, gets in the car and gets his contract and sees i am right and he will have to pay. All of a sudden he was very casual, asked me why i was in the states etc etc. We filled out the paper work and in the end 'I am very happy there are Damage Waivers. Makes life easier for everybody. Accidents can happen to everyone...'.
Here in 'socialist' Belgium, you hit someone, insurance pays. Unless you intentionally hit someone, or you are drunk or you are driving 100mph or something else you should not be doing with a car. Even if you are drunk, there are situations where you get away with it (for example you are driving the legal speed, straight ahead, and some fucktard jumps in front of the car, you might get away because there is no link between the alcohol and the accident).

Absolutely true.
In fact it is predominantly a russian disease.
Ever wondered why there are so much russian dashcam vids with car accidents?
That their roads suck and many russians drive like vodka-infused madmen is only half the truth.

When I said American disease, I was thinking more towards the "I'm gonna sue you" culture, regardless of whose fault it actually is.
I mean in the modern world we have people suing Tobacco companys for example, its absolutely ridiculous.
It may not be an American thing, but I sure as hell dont remember it when I was growing up, and since then a lot of Americanisms have entered modern Britian. Heck back then if you tripped over a crack in the pavement / sidewalk you called yourself an idiot and carried on with your life, now you sue the local government / council for neglecting to fix the pavement / sidewalk.
I once ran into a sign when I was drunk I ended up in the local A&E with mild concussion. In todays world I could sue someone for the sign being too low.

Right, misunderstood that.
Given that the american sueing culture already started to emerge in the early/mid 90's its a small wonder it hasnt spread that much over the world yet.
Well, good luck Max, I'm curious how this is going to play out juridically.

Lol it's funny when people say that's what insurance is for... That's what it SHOULD be for but it really isn't.
See in our head we think we pay small amount for insurance monthly and when stuff happens insurance pays and ur back to normal and paying regular insurance again.
It really isn't like that here... Depending on severity of the ticket or charge and them possibility of a law suite, your premium can double or triple... With a CLEAN record at 24 I was paying 750 bux a month just for absolute bare minimum allowed for my one car (M3) not to mention other 2 cars... Thats because ur in a higher risk bracket if under 25... After 25 insurance for that car became 1/3 at 250... That's simply cause my risk assessment went down... So now they have proof I'm high risk not even a guess anymore... So now my insurance for all cats and bike will become triple or so going into few thousand a month. Doesn't matter that I've driven couple million kilometers by now with clean record or that cause of the accident wasnt bad driving but extreme fatigue from a 14 hour shift then 9 hours of class then 2 hours gym...
So in the end, even though insurance will pay the initial claim to the victim, I'll end up paying them back 3 to 4 times the amount. So it makes sense for me to just pay it from the start. And that is the real scam with insurance.
