Tactical mode is the best thing that could happen to this game, followed by the possibility to modify this game somewhat to your own pleasure.
There was absolutely no excitement if you knew where the enemies are, but now you are careful, keep your team together, guard your position in different directions, etc.
Sector inventory is also very helpful to manage and selling stuff to local vendors, although it still has a serious bug making things vanish forever. I’m careful using it but it works nice enough so far.
Played a little bit with 1.13 and it's a little atrocity. I have cleared 4 or 5 locations but then suddenly the game turned on hard mode and I have to fight proper military who have 100% hit ratio on burst mode from half the map when at the same time I can't hit shit.
WTF? Is this normal?

I havent played the game much farther than you, but I am seeing the same thing. Took 5-6 locations and I now in Cambria and suddenly I got out shot. That surprised me, but I think its a good thing, because untill then I just ran around with the shotgun expert and killed everyone for fun. The reason behind it, I think is that the enemy also gets money per day, just like you and after you take the first mine, she still have 2 mines + more locations.
It seems that the difficulty level progress with ingame time. I waited for like 20 days to be able to hire 4th merc and go after Cambria. But unfortunatly the difficulty spiked to much and I'm getting wasted. Well it seems I will have to start all over.

I know that those guys aren't exactly popular, but they do know their stuff.
I recommend the militia guide and how to storm the upper half of the map on day one. Which will help you to complete the game and have the achievement for finishing the game in a certain time (also helps for a better ending).
Check the interview, is interesting.
For people too busy/impatient to watch:
So, here is a transcript, according to Im@rtAl's interview with Michael:
- DLC "Shades of Red" coming before the end of June
- BiA will not be the last installment in the JA series, though a return to Arulco is not very likely
- Michael claims that BiA is not about realism, it is rather supposed to be a role playing game
- Michael claims that BiA was not released prematurely (most bugs were not known before release)
- vehicles are not going to be implemented at all
- new sneaking or moving options are not going to be implemented at all
- custom mercenary (IMP) is definitely not going to be implemented
- destructible environments are definitely not going to be implemented
- different methods of door opening are being considered, but might not be implemented at all
- a map editor is not going to be released for licensing reasons
- no modding tools are going to be released for the very same reason
Michael: "We underestimated the amount of interest in the game in the end. So I started hanging around in the forums [...] and tried to be part of the community."
The gist of the interview: User requested features could theoretically be implemented, but the costs outweigh the benefits. Also, in Michael's opinion, most players are content with the game anyway (given that based upon the people who have bought the game, only a minority actually posts on the forum).

1.13a crashes after the intro movies, when the main screen is loading.
I installed Skidrow initial release, applied the patch, copied the cracked files and ran launcher.exe. It shows the intro movies but crashes on the main screen. I tried on my laptop and desktop.

The initial release works fine. Running win7 64.
I tried applying 1.13 first and then 1.13a. It works, but the text is messed up in some menu's, even if I use launcher.exe.
Try copying JBs files to the game directory after applying the messy 1.13 update from Skidrow and let any files be overwritten, then install Skidrow's 1.13a with the new crack files. Works fine for me.

I've not tried it since I've been busy with other games but comparing what I played (1.00) to this current version (1.13) would probably be a vastly different experience with all that has been fixed, changed or added.

Wow this game is kicking my ass - got the north and center part of the map, now I got the alma barracks and tixas prison up next and there is a army of 50 men in each area!! (day 9 btw and have a full pro squad (cheapest member is Wolf) + Ira playing solo packmule).
The first couple of missions I ruled with my shotguns, now everyone needs to get hold of an rifle to be of use...These last couple of missions I had to plant my men in ambush positions and then run forward with one guy to draw the enemy back to my position. But thats no fun and I hate when I need to cheese to win :/ Any pro tips for attacking an area like the baracks, where there is no cover etc?
There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
Yeah, the AI either plays dumbass and runs its mouth into your barrels or plays chicken and hides around a corner forever. I still think it works fine. With tactical sight option, they sometimes flank you surprisingly - depends on the location. Really hard to happen in open wilderness of course.
A minor flaw with vanilla is maybe that the perception and weapon ranges are set too short maybe what shrinks the effectiveness of the AI somewhat.
Another problem of the AI is the wrong pick of the stance: Around corner they often aim what takes too long when someone comes around it. In the open, they often use hip-stance what hardly hits. They also hardly ever go prone what would help sometimes.
- Added sorting options to recruitment screen
- Texts on DLC startscreens do not show objective line twice
- Fixed leave map button activating when squad fails to conquer airport (potential crash)
- Fixed wrong initialization of internal value (potential crash)
- Fixed some AI routines, which caused NPCs to show false behavior
- Fixed 1 pixel gap on world map between Arulco and Arulco Maze
- Polish texts revised
I think that it will be one more final patch seeing how a stand-alone expansion was announced. And, yeah, I hope Skiddies managed to do the job properly this time.
I've updated over the 1.13 (didn't installed the 1.13a) and I've had invalid.txt when i've tried to recruit the mercs. Made a clean install and update it directly to 1.13b and the game crashes instantly. I'll test with the files that you kindly provided and add Skidies crack and see what happens. I have a feeling that they've missed some files, as the Point Blanc DLC should launch tomorrow (accordingly to the official forums).
P.S.: Thanks J.B., Skiddies packaging is fragged. With the files you've provided I have the DLC's and the text issues are solved. Used your files and Skiddies crack.
For anyone that wants an working game: use J.B.'s files and add SkidRow's crack.
You only need "interface_win32.pak.crypt" file from JB's update to fix crashes with skidrow update. It's really weird how skidrow missing this update after update with this game.
In any respect, with JB's files, I have all the DLC's showing. And there also seems to a difference in size on other files too. So, i'd rather use JB's files and the SkidRow's crack. But, yeah, this is the third update that is botched by SkidRow. Or is it the fourth?!
