What an utterly ridiculous piece of shit this turned out to be. I've got half a mind to write to SEGA and ask them to pay for the bandwidth I used up on it.

-Mouse feels like it's sliding around on ice. Some weird ass acceleration with independent X and Y axis.

-Menu control that only Japanese can fathom apparently. The escape key on the keyboard has no function. If you want to go back in a menu, you hit, the USE key. If you want to go forward, you hit the Sprint key. Because this makes SO much sense.

-Never figured out what key functions to select the top or bottom voice command. For all I know, it could have been bound to ` and X respectively if the logic of the regular menus is anything to go by.

-Mouse wheel doesn't scroll weapons (nor can it be bound to do so). Another case of a developer using Apple 2 button mice from 1988.

-Screen size must be set independently of resolution. Yea, because I'm playing on a fucking TV.....

They really ought to stick with Nintendo and Play Station - anything beyond that and they come up with this utter fucking mess of an abortion. Sad

It's a shooter but it's not too bad and has it's moments however yes there is a number of technical issues and some oversights during the conversion to the PC platform but a patch or two might help, unsure how SEGA is with customer support, probably also dependent on the developer.

It's kinda similar to Bulletstorm in many ways albeit without the whole combo thing.
(I'm not good at explaining at all so this probably just sounds weird, I like Bulletstorm though which is important even if it also suffered from technical issues and overall was a pretty standard shooter.)

I think too many ppl are eager to dismiss a game if it has techincal issues, this is far from bad.

Playing it on the 360 or PS3 might be "far from bad" - but playing it on the PC, with the issues it currently has (and CONTROL issues are far from minor technical problems) are simply inexcusable. Why should people fight past ridiculous shit like this just on the off-chance that the game MIGHT be worth it IF they can come to terms with spastic controls, vaseline screen filter and gaping black holes for borders?

I know you buy every game known to man, but sometimes I think your choices are a little... strange... <3

I've just finished playing the demo (I was using 360's derpad) and all I got was mediocre, generic TPP shooter with cover-system. It's as much of a console game as it can be.

You can give orders to your teammates and, unless you gain their trust, they won't listen to you. This idea might seem cool at first but... I just don't like it since it makes no sense to me. (It's a fucking war goddamnit and soldiers should listen to their commanders' orders! How can it have anything to do with a personal attitude?!)

Except for enemies design and their animations, there's nothing particularly interesting here IMO.

It seems that this game can put some heavy stress on CPU during more tense firefights.

It can also serve as a nice example of how current console games are made: N64 textures (weak GPUs; low memory) + really nice physics and particle effects during firefights (decent CPUs).

Lots of people are going to play Risen 2 despite its technical flaws.

@ Sabin
I'll admit the game has weird design choices when it comes to the pc version...black borders being one of them. But for me personally control issues has never been a game breaking deal...I'll try to enjoy the game as it is and follow the story.

I just love games. Very Happy <3

Well, gameplay wise, it's kinda meh, but story wise it's really fucking awesome, I loved it Very Happy. The story is good, lots of choices and you have TIMED replies, so you can't sit there for an hour pondering what to do, you gotta act fast.

VERY worth it. Really well done and despite the bugs a game I have played through 3 times just to see the different bits of the story. Gameplay its maybe a 5-8 depending on the level but as a complete package I would give it a 8.5 solid. A good deal of it comes together to really make it more than the sum of its parts.

Another case of a developer using Apple 2 button mice from 1988.

what 2 buttons ? try 1 button mice. they dont need neither scroll, neither more than 1 button. cause father jobs told them so. stupid normal pc users and their shit gui, that require more than 1 button and a scroll wheel to work properly.

heh, is not that bad as i wrote it, they got mouses with 4 buttons and scrolls in 2005. (probably at 5x higher price than a pc mouse).
but still, it was kinda late in the grand scheme of things.

i don't think there were many opinions about the game, just bitching about controls and pc features (not saying it isn't justified). when initial wave of ppl that try every new game is moved onto another game, we might get some more worthwhile mini-reviews from ppl who played longer than 10 minutes.
