Can someone upload a save from a more performance demanding area?

I don't feel like starting the game just yet and the first 5min don't seem to be demanding, but I'd like to see how the game will perform on my system.

Caldera is a very demanding area, performance might actually increase once you reach Tacarigua due to the amount of effects they added to that little prologue (Well not only prologue) area to start the game with.

As for my settings they're rough I mean I removed most of the presets since I only use one of them and draw distance and render distance was mostly doubled aside from NPC view distance which caused a massive lag spike so I had to lower it down slightly.

MSAA caused all grass to become black and quickly pop in and out of view / flicker badly so I had to change that as well and I use SMAA so edgeAA (I don't know what it actually uses, could be custom or it could be FXAA or even MLAA but the later is unlikely.)

Vegetation actually did improve from altering the view distance but Speedtree is a exception to this, most tree objects will display that 2d like mesh change where leaves and twigs or branches are added or removed as you get closer or further away, most other vegetation now behaves properly so maybe a extremely high value could help but I doubt it.

Can't do much about the water, it looks OK when viewed from a distance but up close or when actually in it the thing looks like some transparent film or jelly even though it's not as bad as certain PhysX based water simulations. Very Happy
(The water isn't all that advanced and not many effects are used at all it seems but it works.)

I'd say the game runs fine but I upgraded my entire hardware setup just a few weeks ago so it would be inaccurate as the game is very demanding but I don't quite know why.
(The default LOD draw distance is very aggressive and while lighting and shadows are nice - there's SSAO and soft-shadows at the ultra preset even - it's not fantastic or super advanced either although there's a number of effects utilized.)

I suspect the game engine is just a bit off balance and could probably do with a overhaul now after being around since Gothic 3 even if it's been extensively added to since.
(Of course if they opted for more compatibility it could still retain many problems but overall it's come a long way since the messy build Gothic 3 used before the community patch cleaned it up over a year or two of extra development and massive effort.)

Nothing I would know all that in-depth though, I'm simply having fun playing the game and since I can I also tweak various settings to improve things were possible, I'd really like to see the vegetation system improved but it's probably just as hopeless as wanting the animations to look good.
(Jump animation is extremely stiff just to name one thing, still I'm enjoying the game despite it's flaws but that's nothing new from me I guess but many will likely find some of these issues very jarring and annoying.)

I can't say that much currently as it's just how it was in the beta, I'll see more once I reach the further out areas but I'm playing at the hard difficulty and since health is limited (always?) you die in just a few hits without proper care, fighting groups is very dangerous but I enjoy the challenge, normal is fine too and even easy will likely pose a challenge initially, unfortunately though the equipment you acquire and amount of skills to upgrade does mean it still balances out a bit poorly towards the end where you will apparently feel very overpowered.
(Particularly with the efficiency of guns, unsure if I'll pursue voodoo or gun technology but both sound fun at the moment.)

It's near midnight here and I'm really tired plus I just got home so I apologize if the post seems more structured than usual. Very Happy

It takes a while to start up as it initiates but it shouldn't take more than a minute at most.
(The usual stuff here about keeping runtimes and such up to date, .Net - unsure if it uses it - PhysX - also unsure if it's used, think it was - DirectX - hasn't been updated in a separate installer for some time so should be up to date - Visual C runtimes - updates frequently but it wouldn't work or even start at all without the proper ones installed.)

Ah that's worse, does it do a mini file dump in the exe folder?
(That means it actually did crash.)

No..it doesn't...

I double click Risen2.exe, I see the logo for a few seconds, then black screen for like 1" and it crashes back to desktop but no mini dump exists in that folder...

So, the only thing needed to activate the DLC packs is the modified exe? Besides the files of the DLC packs themselves I mean. Those are obviously needed for the DLC packs to work properly.

That must be a bit more severe then if it doesn't even manage to initiate the crash dump.

Which release are you using, it's not one of the older ones using the beta files is it?

EDIT: Could use the visual C installer in this guys signature, should update anything and fix any possible issues but I don't think that's the problem here.

I'm running Revolt's release and tried both the beta crack and the skidrow one. I'm re-installing at the moment, to see if I get it right. I'm thinking maybe I should get the Skidrow full release.

It's not one of those sound related issues is it?
(You need to set windows audio to no higher than 48000 hz although you can use whatever bit 8 - 16 - 24 you want or it needs to use 5.1 instead of 7.1 or some other obscure problem.)

Heh troubleshooting these types of issues can be a real problem.
(And sometimes the solution is either very obvious or very strange, corrupted file could also be a possibility for example or just a background program running.)

LOL!! Thanks man, I disabled the soundcard for a quick check...and it launched fine!...loool!!

Hadn't seen that sound problem shit for years..!!

I'll try 5.1 now, but the only way I can get my z5500 working fine is by selecting 7.1 in the windows settings ( win 7 x64 )

Thanks again for your time and help ^^

Hmm, the DLC files JB uploaded seem to be missing in the installation of the Skidrow release. I've added them, though I don't have the ones for the Temple of Air.

After registering the codes I got I noticed it downloaded something afterwards.

http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1841080#1841080

Turned out to be just the dialogue related files and the actual DLC info is in projects.pak and some other files but that's how it was in the beta already.
(Three islands - I only have that treasure isle one, there's the air temple in the Steelbeard edition as well and the third is not available yet - and one outfit you can't wear until you become a pirate - there are no factions as such however - but you get a ring with +5% glory gain and a quite good pistol for early levels.)

How many DLCs is there? I got pirates clothes, treasure isle and temple of air. Any more?

Played it for about 1 hour. Pop-in and animation is terrible, and other minor graphical issues but I didn't expect technical excellence from PB anyway, so none of those things really matter to me.

Combat is a spam fest, but I have hope it becomes better as more skills unlock.

So far no major complains, but I really have to play a lot more to get the proper feel of the game.

Seeing as how that's usually only available to people with the Steelbeard CE, can you upload it? Please? =) Or are you running a Yarr version that came with that DLC?

Those are all.

Yeah, the "beta" wasn't a beta, it was pretty much a masked demo. There's talk of a patch so maybe that will take care of some problems, but the current version has the same problems that annoyed me in the "beta". They haven't fixed the mouse movement, still the same slug speed on the Y axis. Also, what I find really annoying... what the fuck is the purpose of those black bars in the dialogues?! This game supports different aspect ratios properly. It's just the dialogues, they are put there on purpose and only fuck up the game. Uuuuuuugghhh...

Thanks.

Sabin, I'm going to sleep and it would take some time to upload on my crappy connection. But if you download "risen.2.dark.waters.with.3dm.vovan.crackfix" version of Risen 2 it comes with that DLC. Just use skidrow crack on it.

You can also probably just download projects.pak (and whatever other files DLC uses), if you download from torrents. And replace your existing ones.

Do you have multimonitor setup? I had the same kind of problem, it flashed the logo then black screen and then it opened the game to my TV-screen, not in the monitor. Had to unplug TV to get the game to the monitor.
