Are you asking what TO do with it in the game, or are you asking what WE do with the slot? If it's the latter; I dual-wield where and when possible ^_^

Asking what you do with your hand; I find my self holding my chin some 5 minutes in to the game.. it seems the game can be played with only mouse (and only 2 buttons )
PS: iskipped the first Diablos and all this genre, was expecting movement keys!

I haven't enjoyed a single hack&slash game since Diablo 2 (apart from Torchlight), and I tried them all.
I didn't even kill the Skeleton King when I got into the beta and I knew immediately I'm going to buy it. Preordered Collector's Edition.

You made a decision based on not being able to play the beta stress testing. I understand the disappointment, but you don't really punish Blizzard by that. I could understand if you didn't like the game, but you didn't even got to play it...
I'd recommend giving the game a chance, especially if you liked previous installments.

Just to complete my comment. The game is not "dark" enough for me, way too cartoonish, too slow, too many tips/helps, maps pointing everything, loot drop is not shared (thou i can understand the idea behind it, not sure if it is the right one, or implemented the correct way) . . .
The game is not bad, but NOT what i actually expected . . .
After playing POE i felt Diablo 3 somewhat bland . . . something is missing . . . |

No matter what server I'm using Europe/America same thing, servers are busy for moment and some other error 300x or so >_>

Open beta my ass. 
This is just Blizzard testing servers settings and not giving a shit about people being able to play or not. Greedy bastards won't offer anything for free or without a gain. So jump right in and be their test lab rats.
You'll buy the game and you know it!

there are set items of course, but as with so much other stuff, there's none of it accessible in the beta.

I played the beta over and over and while i´ll def buy it, the game doenst feel any different than other h&s games. Just mindless click. They should have added a few more levels since it´s way too short and add one more difficulty level to make it more challening.
I know most ppl here dont care about the gfx, but for me d3 looks pretty dated. The art in some areas are nicely detailed, but i expected more from blizzard, and it won´t look better than this according to what i read.
On the other hand, I have to admit sounds with a 5.1 are awesome.

It's a beta. It's 1/3 of first act on normal difficulty which shouldn't pose any threat to the player just like d2. They shouldn't have added any more levels either since this was just a test not a demo or anything.
And no it doesn't look dated. It looks extremely impressive in a paintery-style kind of way. It's a style that looks nice now and it will look just as nice years from now when people will still be playing it.
If you wanted photo realistic graphics this isn't the place to look for.
