Has anyone with a slow connection like 1mb per second played this beta? I'm mostly interested in single-player and was wondering if it is playable on such a setup.

D1 is actually still running, you just have to download the patch before playing.

Yes it is playable. The first time is quite laggy but after restarting the game a second time the game plays more or less smoothly.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

You can hate Blizzard all you like, but if there's one thing Blizzard has shown through action it's that they support their products a hell of lot better, and a hell of a lot longer than anyone else in the industry. I hate World of Warcraft as much as the next guy but let's stick to reality while hating.
Besides even if Blizzard decides to shut down the Diablo III servers eventually, it will be 25 years after you stopped playing it anyway. For those 7 dudes that are still playing Diablo III in 2037 I'm sure there will some sort of technical solution. I'm pretty sure you won't be among them though.

Doesn't the private server emulators need to have mobs placed manually? If that's the case then it's the server software that has all the info on it and we only have the base of the game installed. So if that is so, blizzard has to release their server software to the public which will never happen in a million years.
