One more thing , if you want these crazy random shots you have to play on Sniper Elite difficulty ofc...cause wind and gravity makes them so random and fun. Playing on lower difficulty is meh , everything is so precise and boring.. For a proper headshot or scope kill , you need some skills..

@Interinactive

m..when it comes to well trained soldiers, you would expect them to stay low when there is enemy sniper in the zone, but when it comes to situation like this of life and death, people can have hysteria like reaction and they will do the worst move for that situation.

now from this game you would expect the right reaction....maybe if you choose to play on hard? (readig the posts here, looks like the hard is not so hard Sad

anyway when it comes to my field,i will just enjoy the slow motion and to plant wire mines Very Happy i don't like it when it is realistic or too realistic,i am into the fun part:)

If levels were more open, then it would make sense for the enemies to try and stay out of sight. But if the only way to your position is a single street, they pretty much have to storm your place to do anything productive. Oh harder difficulties, they are more aggressive, spot you easily and are more accurate. That's pretty much it.

I guess it would be less fun if you had to wait 5 hours to take a single shot because the Germans are hiding behind that pile of rubble down the street. Keep in mind that this game doesn't want to be the next Arma.

Anyone here know if the retail version uses Steamworks or is Steam-support just for copies bought through Steam? The retail version is 20 euros cheaper here in Finland but I don't know if I want to buy it if that version misses features like cloud saving, achievements and leaderboards.

Retail Steam games are basically Steam backups on a disc, so I don't see any reason for them to have different support or functionalities ?

Can't think of a Steam retail game that didn't have the Steam functionalities that you're mentioning. Cloud saving is a game-feature I think ?

Do they use smoke grenades, explosive grenades, suppression, flanking maneuvers, multiple paths and so on to flush you out?
On harder difficulties it's dangerous to stick your head out for more than a second or two. Otherwise, not really. I'm not sure about HE grenades (they have them on their belts, so I would guess they can use them), and I don't think smokescreens were that widespread in WW2. But I'm no expert, maybe it's just 100% omitted in movies and games when it comes to dealing with snipers (now that I think of it, the only time I ever say smokescreens in a ww2 setting was in Band of Brothers, when they used it as a signal). As for flanking, again, I can't really comment. We only saw a few streets with few to no alleys. Maybe if the levels were more open, we could see if it's able to flank. All I know that if you don't pay attention and a few soldiers get past your fire, into the building and you don't have traps set up, they will pump you full of lead fast (unless you see them enter and wait for them with your own SMG, then they are like cows in a slaughterhouse).

Who is saying it has to be, to be a decent sniping game? Though, in relation to sniping mechanics and enemy AI, it'd be nice if it tried, they will waste no time flanking your position and overwhelming you with logic in ARMA, which makes for a nice challenge. Logic and challenge... multiplatform sniping game... what am I saying.

If this game didn't have killcams, I doubt it would be very popular at all, which is what I was getting at with my first comment on this page. A double testicle shot? Uh huh. It has to be chance based, I really doubt a lot of shots are anything other than scripted, all depending on which vicinity of the body you hit. That kind of thing alone takes away most of the fun for me, not that it isn't completely like ARMA.
All I'm saying, is that given the level we were shown in the demo, the AI had very little choice in the matter. Either storm the place or flee. And who want's to play a sniper game where you only shoot at the enemy's backside?

I can confirm that killshots at least don't appear to be scripted. I landed quite a few headshots, all of them were unique. Sometimes it entered right in the middle of the forehead, sometimes slightly to the side, sometimes just above the eye, sometimes right in the eye, sometimes in the jaw, sometimes in the neck, nose, cheeks, etc. And even if I managed to get a bullet into the same place, the skull would shatter in different ways every time, sometimes just leaving a little hole if it was a 90degree shot, a slightly bigger hole in the entry wound if it was at an angle, etc. So I can safely say that xray shots are either completely unscripted or they spend a ridiculous amount of time to model a ludicrous amount of scenarios about how, where, when and at what angle bullets enter the body. I too had a nagging feeling about it too, but the more I played around with it, the more I found it to be not scripted.

So for what they said the game would do, it does beautifully, as for the AI, it surely appears to be dumb, but that might be due to the kind of level were shown, and we just have to wait and see how they fare in the final game. Maybe we'll get more open areas where they actually have a chance to flank you.

Some Q&A

Quote:
Will it be possible to turn off regenerating health? Thanks.

No. This may be something we can adjust for the PC version after launch, but we would need to look into it very carefully as it can have a knock-on for the game's difficulty, along with other aspects of gameplay.

Quote:
1.- About dedicated servers for multiplayer, will we be able to host our own? (and i mean host it on our PC, not having to rent a third party service)

2.- guess this game will be steamworks enabled, will we be disconnected from the match if steam servers go down?

3.- Please tell me you are NOT implementing any stupid rank/unlock system for MP

1. You will be able to host your own dedicated server.

2. Yes.

3. No unlocking system, no ranking system either.

Quote:
Will you still be able to incapacitate enemies to bait other enemies from hiding, like in the original Sniper Elite?

Yes, you will be able to.
