Is there not a way to fucking lock a WinXP machine without all your shit closing? I figured this would be one of the easiest fucking things to do on this shit, but for some reason I can't find a way.
There used to be a way to launch a screensaver via a shortcut and that would instantly launch the password.. no dice there.
And all the "Lock" bullshit is just a logoff and close your session, also closing all your shit that's open.
Wtf?
(sorry, frustrated)

Quote: | Lock Workstation with a Shortcut
NT and 2000 users are accustomed to locking their desktop with ALT+CTRL+DEL, but under XP this brings up the performance monitor. You can create a shortcut on the desktop to lock your desktop with the following command:
rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation |
not exactly true.
when i press ctrl+alt+del i can still lock my station by pressing the first option from the 6 you get
Quote: | If you're looking for a key combo to accomplish this same task, WINKEY+L will lock your desktop. |
works here.
btw use google next time with windows xp lock workstation

WINKEY + L for me:
Definately not what I want.
I'll try the other thing you just said, I hope to freakin' god it doesn't close all my shit.
Also, this is my CTRL + ALT + DEL:
No useful lock in there either.
I did use google by the way, got 4583805934953 pages of stupid shit about logging off.

pics dont work and windows + L = switch user... only really locks it if you have a pw... i suppose ya could put a screensaver on with a password prompt. i think the "lock the workstation" stuff only appear on server versions though.

You have to turn off the welcome screen to log on, it sucks anway. Use the traditional login screen, that way you can lock your pc

This is also true. Once the "welcome screen" is off ctrl + alt + del will bring up the normal "NT" screen with locking, logging out and other options.
