If you're talking about Dark Souls, there's that PC port rumor going around so you might want to wait on that. Though, seeing your previous post in this thread, I was under the impression that you played Dark Souls already...

Yeah, sorry drunk.
Meant that in order to play dead souls which seems to be the best game ever, or close second to dark souls, I need a ps3. And I find it hard to buy a console for just one game.
But considering quality and replay values in these titles one souls game equals about 10 other games...

I think you mean, Demon's Souls, right?
I find it hard to keep the two games apart as well, the names are quite similar But at least they finally didn't go with just a "2" in the name
Those are to be two completly separate games as from software said... somewhere...sometime

That ring. That ring of burden* that is dropped by that giant guy with the penis club, in the basement of the tower, that leads to the forest section with the crystal guys. It did not drop. We both died at the same fucking time and when I got back there was no item there. o____0
Can I find that anywhere else?
*or what ever it's called - it cuts your equipment load in half or something like that

dark wood grain ring isn't better per se since it does nothing to your equip load, but rather lets you do the fastest modified "roll" like with 25% equip load, so it goes along nicely with havel's - ninja flipping in heavy armor with shitty endurance, fuck yeah.
might add that havel's ring isn't that good or by any means essential, since not too long after that point you can get the "ring of favor and protection" from lautrec in anor londo, which gives 20% to equip load, endurance and HP. boost your endurance skill enough to offset the 30% equip load difference - which you should do anyway, since more stamina rules - and you end up with an overall kick-ass boost to your character. combine that with the DWGR and you also have the necessary stamina to troll enemies to death
note that said ring gets destroyed if you take it off, but why in the world would one do such a thing? best fucking piece of equipment ever, especially if you go with a sort of medium well-rounded build.
btw, can anyone who has beaten the game post a good fit/strategy/weapon recommendation for the four kings? i tried just going in rambo style with my lighning spear since time isn't exactly on my side here, but i usually end up dead on the 3rd king. i'm not THAT bad at this game, so probably simply lacking DPS, since i do fine vs one, but not two. might also have to do with me missing (thrust motion) because of the goddamn lock on which is kinda fucked in this fight. i'm a dex build btw, so yeah...katana? but which one? and which element/enhancement?

There is no need to use havels ring at all anymore, since that only raises your equip burdon, whereas the dark wood grain rings enables the fastest flip in the game for half the usual stamina cost. You can easily reach the important 55 poise threshold with just the dark wood grain ring at levels of 20+ if you use the FAP ring and configure your stats effectively. Wearing full havels gear is the exception, but that armor doesn't even have that good defence stats and 76 poise would be the absolute max anyone ever needed. That's why there's a lot of nerd rage on the subject of pvp, since builds are effectively designed around these 2 rings, which ensure good poise and fast rolling for the invincibility frames. it gets very boring seeing everyone wearing giants gear with the mummys mask. but that setup with these rings is pretty much the best in the game, hence everyone uses them. try a bit of variety people!
Just started playing this fucker, and dying like crazy. But it is still fun. Anything you guys suggest I should watch out for? I only just beat the tutorial, and am now at the part where you can level up the first time. Any do or do-nots? (also I never played Demon Souls...)

Don't put any experience points into Resistance. That is all.

Practice all the combat moves. You dont need to be in combat to practice them. Helps a lot, some are extremly difficult to get right because they need perfect timing, in combat they can be next to impossible, especially if you havent trained the timing like crazy..
Heal. Your flasks refills everytime you rest at a bonfire or die, so make sure you use them.
When you die you lose the souls you've gathered, so make sure you return to the place where you died and pick up the green "flame".
Study the enemies combat patterns.
If an enemy seems completely impossible he probably is, for the moment.
Get a bow / crossbow to kill off fuckers that throws firebombs.
I find it very difficult to kick and to do a jump sword atack

When going into new areas take it slow and safe, check what is waiting around corners with your camera before proceeding, expect that there is something waiting to kill you at every turn. Once you learn the area, enemy positions and such, then you can relax a little.
Always have a shield equipped and use it, if you are heading into a new area then keep your shield up, it will save your life. The same goes for new enemies or bosses, don't just rush and attack, get your shield up, look and learn their attacks, look for the tells on which attack will be coming, once you know what to expect things become much easier.
Try to use roll often, it might be hard at first and may end up killing you until you learn the proper distance you can roll and when is a good time to roll. Proper use of rolling is key to success. Don't bother with backstep, roll will always serve you better.
Although there are some places that you can jump to, the jump mechanic isnt really the best and can often result in death, so be prepared that it is a real risk you will die when attempting any jumps.
Beware of potential traps, the game has a few that will kill you if you arn't careful, for example if you see an enemy that runs away from you on sight, a shiny out in plain sight, or a wide open area. Use the camera and proceed with caution.
Explore everywhere and grab all the loot you can. Exploration is one of the things i really love in this game, although there is a loose path you should follow in order to keep the difficulty curve in check, you can often get some very helpful shineys when exploring.
Spend your souls, get a repair box as soon as possible and get into the habbit of repairing your gear when you rest at a bonfire, if you have the souls to level up, then do it.
If you have the humanity, then kindle bonfires. It will take you 2 humanity per bonfire at first, 1 to turn human and 1 to kindle. Kindling means you will always get 10 flasks when you rest instead of 5, meaning you can keep your health topped up more effectively.
The AI is very aggressive, but this can work in your favor, you can lure them into traps, play defensive and while they wildly swing away you an move round for an easy backstab. If there is a large group of enemies be aware that you can often single pull from a distance using a bow.
Never carry more souls or humanity then your prepared to lose, you will more often then not end up dieing. Don't spend the items you find which grant you souls on use, unless you intend to spend the souls right away.
One more thing to mention is the games story, much of it is hidden and requires the player to put together many bits and pieces to reveal, like a puzzle. If it interests you then read all item descriptions, talk multiple times to all NPCs you find to get all of the dialouge. The lore and story are really quite cool in my opinion, just the way it is told may put some people off.
Hope at least some of that is helpful, this game is really worth the effort to adapt and learn how to play, one of the most rewarding experiences i have had in recent memory. Really hoping the rumours of a PC port are true as playing on PC would open a lot of new pathways for further improving an already amazing game.
I find rolling kind of worthless, so far at least, it's just too slow imo takes forever to get up (playing a Thief, focusing on dex) seems too dangerous and will make you very vunerable.
One important thing i forgot to mention is to pull.. For example if there's 3 enemies you can usually at least pull one of them to make it a lot easier..
Is it a good idea to stay in one place grinding (to level up)? I dont think the enemies scales to your level, but i'm not sure, the trash mobs doesnt seem to level at least..

Yeah, it's really hard.. i can perfect it if i train it a lot, then if i do something else for a while my timing is completely off again, sucks

What about leveling? I chose a Warrior (or something, the first class). Should I level Strenght first, and then Stamina?
Also could it be that not all weapons can backstab? I equipped a Mace, and got behind an unsuspecting enemy, but still it only did a normal attack? But might just have been me
And about the weight limit. I already carry around alot of items, but did I get it right that not every item you have counts for the weight limit, only those that are equipped in the slots on the D-Pad?

If you want to go for a strength build i would highly recommend getting strength to 16 as priority over anything else, then dex to 10, then finally some towards endurance. The reason behind this is for strength characters, there is a very powerful and relatively easy to obtain weapon avaliable in the early part of the game (just after the taurus demon)
If you're interested, bareing in mind it is quite overpowered in the early game, but will help a ton, then how to get it is below.

If you are not sure how to get a bow, it can be bought from the merchant in the undead burg. To find him, he is near the first bonfire you find in the undead burg (the bonfire close to the small bridge with the the guys throwing fire bombs down) just go out from the bonfire and head right, down the stairs past the archer, then left onto the roof with the 2 defensive/spear type ememies. Go down into this building and he is on the balcony.

It should work as far as i know, i've never used maces but i think all melee weapons can backstab except whips.

Yes that is correct, you can carry as much as you want in your inventory, only what you have equipped counts to the weight limit. Bare in mind that your weight will effect things like your roll speed, personally i like to keep my weight at under 50% of the limit, though under 25% is much better for some bosses, but i guess that's just personal playstyle.

rolling is only useless if your load is above 50%. check your equip load - especially as a thief build, it should be below 50% at first, but work towards <25%
Ok, good to know.. see if can find where it says equip load, still not liking the UI that much i have to say, i have no idea what most of the symbols stands for even :/ the manual didnt explain them.
in your equipment/character stats overview, hit Y (or triangle if on ps3) to switch between the stuff on the right side. equip load should be the 3rd from the top
Was farming for a couple of souls a few hours ago... and man! when they say no pause screen, they don't fuck around! Not even when the batteries run out... in the middle of a god damn fight. With basic Undead Parish peons.
To put things into perspective; 2 hrs before that I was running around the Depths "hunting" pretty much everything that moved - but mainly those fucking annoying curse-frogs - I then went all over the forest, including the area with the locked door and after than back to the depths and fought that gaping lizard boss without so much a visit to a bonfire. Only to have that streak pissed on when the batteriesdiedout!!!
Played some demons souls over a couple of days now.
The negatives:
Nexus. I don't like having to look for black maiden every time I want to level up.
Targeting. Autolocks alot to wrong enemy. Also makes me unwillingly jump to certain death.
Leveldesign /world. Its feels like 70% of game is blightown.
World tendency/character tendency. Wtf is this shit? Many places, events and weapons are available only under this criteria!?
Item burden. Yeah like I know what loot is ahead of me and if I go back to nexus to unload burden and go back to collect, the loot is now gone.
Stats. Why are bows not under dexterity?
Soul signs. "im in trouble, please rate this message."
Grass. Crescent, full, new, blabla.
Pros:
It's still fantastic. After being anoyed yesterday I got to 1:3 and everything is forgotten. It's so cool level design. Best castle/burg I have ever experienced in a game.
Personally I like dark souls better. Better and more classes, gear, weapons, world, secrets, covenants, estus flasks, story plots, enemies...yeah just more and better in most ways. Demon souls is still a very very good game and Im far from done with it.

Yeah happened to me too. Guess no pause button is because game is online at all time, meaning you can get invaded etc and wouldnt make sence to be able to pause...
you could have just switched off your PS3.
the game saves all the damn time so switching off the PS3 and returning later would mean no deaths and no loss of progress or maybe a minute if you're unlucky.
if your batteries don't die out and you just have to leave you can also just quit the game and not lose any progress. it's the same as with demon's souls.
