I'm really in the mood for an RTS
My favorites are StarCraft 2, World in Conflict, Men of War+RT, Company of Heroes and older C&C games (all SP, can't stand MP)
Is there anything else that matches these quality wise? I didn't quite like ANNO 2070, and the newer C&C games don't really do it for me. I was thinking of trying a Total War game perhaps (I've got Shogun 2 and Empire TW) but I'm not sure how good they are in the long run. I've also never played a Civilization game and I haven't really heard good things about the last one.
Are there any must play RTS games you can recommend?

Did you try the Warhammer 40K games? The first one is comparable to Company of Heroes, the second one is more like the commdano missions in Starcraft or C&C as you do not buildhuge armies but work with a squad of soldiers.

Absolutely agreed on both accounts. I'd even go as far as to say DoW2 incorporates some RPG and loot elements too, which makes the replayability pretty damn high.

wargame for a world in conflict gamelike (without airdrops) and shogun for a good all-around building/massive armies rts.
also supreme commander for massive armies and nuclear missiles.

Well if you enjoyed Company of Heroes, you'll feel right at home with Dawn of War. The game is all but identical, besides the scifi/40k setting change, and they even run on the same engine. Dawn of War 2 is the same style of game, only this time it brings the gameplay down to managing smaller - more personalised - squads and omits the base building of the previous title. Absolutely worth playing BOTH of them, I can pretty much guarantee you won't regret it.

Ground Control series.
The original Blitzkrieg series (Blitzkrieg2 series was a bit underwhelming)

Total War games are a must and they offer a lasting experience. Empire is shit, Napoleon is a bit better, Shogun 2 is great.
Anno 2070 is not exactly a strategy game, more like a city builder with a little unit management. Warfare is not the main focus.
Civ5 has problems, Civ4 is a decent enough entry of the series, many stand by Civ3. I would say Civ4 with expansions is a safe bet.
Supreme Commander games are very light on single-player so if you're not interested in MP, I would give them a pass.
Many people like the King Arthur games. The lackluster combat kinda ruined it for me, but I see the potential.
A bit older, but great RTS is World in Conflict. Modern military setting, but has a decent SP campaign.
These are what come to mind all of a sudden.
EDIT: most are ninjad' I see.

I'd give anything for another WiC title, it was by far one of the best combat-based RTS titles I've ever played - and it even had an enjoyable story too. I wasn't all that keen on the expansion, though at least the devs did it right by merging the expansion into the main-game missions, rather than as an afterthought.
World in Conflict 2 would make me a very, very happy gamer.

You need to play Dawn of War 2 and expansions. And if you buy, make sure to check The Last Stand MP. It's not competitive, it's three people coop versus waves of enemies with persistent, progressively advancing characters.
