i hope i can pay a couple months of rent with selling d3 items hehe (like i did back with d2)
(and yeah, if the "cut" from the RMAH is too big, i just sell them over 3rd party sites. I have no scruple what-so-ever doingn that hehe).
today, items in d2 are almost worthless (because of the infinite amount of bots), but couple years back, you could sell items for tens and even hundreds of $. I basicly made a living out of playing D2 back then hehe.
@masca yeah you have to reach level 10, but thats pretty much same as in d2 reaching 2/3 of act1. You havent even reached the first act boss. I prefer to play once through (at least through hell) so i know exactly what i have to look out for, what to avoid etc. (like in d2 the iron maiden casters in act 4 (and later also in act 5), or the deadly lightning shooting ... ghost... thingys .. in act 4 and 5 , or exploding bosses etc etc. Normal mode you can run through pretty easy (and even nm), but hell (in d2) its a whole other story. So i prefer to test it out first, before running blind into my death

I know. I'll also play Normal until I get familiar with all the areas. It would be stupid for any of us to start HC without knowing what's around the corner. One death and bye-bye char.

So in other words -
I'm not going to play a mode where it's main draw is that you CAN'T die, thereby creating massive tension at key moments, until I'm absolutely certain of what to expect during those moments, thereby nullifying the risk of ever dying, and with it, all of the tension.
Why play hardcore at all then?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

The reason I likely won't bother playing Hardcore is precisely that it's not about risks - it's about cowardice. The way to not die is to play like a complete pussy, and even if it's on a timer - it's about being a slightly less complete pussy.
I can appreciate the tension that brings, but I can't - personally - see the entertainment value outweighing the utter waste of time it is to accidentally die when you let your guard down and forget to be a complete pussy.

I love hardcore. When I'm not playing hardcore nothing is on the line so I just don't care as much. The game is just more exciting for me when dying means something.

I don't get it. What's wrong in knowing your "enemy" ? You don't dive in in every situation, you first have to evaluate it. PvP will be the thing that will make the difference between noobs and pro players.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.

you people really think HC is going to be possible?
it always was and always will be for the top 1% of players, play some diablo 2 HC, you'll last until.... andariel i bet at most, it'd be nothing less than a crying shame if HC didn't rape you at every opportunity in D3 just like it did in D2, hell you didn't even get the privilege of trying it until you beat the entire game once in D2 (hopefully same with D3, act 1 boss is the end boss for the beta..) so it's not like "knowing what's coming" will help you.

I never got into HC mode myself, only time we played in HC mode was with friends, for the hell of it to see how far we could get (with just us on new toons).
but 99% of the time it was non-HC mode.
I myself cant see the fun being worth the risk of losing all the time invested into the character and items, over one mistake, or one random player wanting to kill you. But that's just my opinion on it, I'm not a "balls to the wall, all or nothing" type guy
