GW1 didn't have at first, but it does have now. Most of the stuff you purchase is cosmetic I see no problem. In GW1 you can buy various costumes, character slots, immediate PvP skills unlock, etc.

Microtrasactions are good stuff to keep the game running by the ones that want to spend money on useless crap that is only cosmetical, others dont care about that kind of crap will be glad they can play better for some free content for money that was from transactions.

I was kind of disappointed that it is launching with 5 character slots and 8 professions... until I remembered that GW1 launched with 4 slots and 6 professions and it was never a problem for me. Smile

There will be an option to buy another character slot, and with further Xpac default character slots will be increased defaultly by a huge number, atleast thats how it was in GW1

Depends how far they take it. It usually doesn't stop at cosmetics and pets and shit. LOTRO went downhill fast once they introduced a cash shop. They went out of their way to inconvenience the player to then offer him convenience for a price. Now they even sell gear at the shop.

my view on microtransaction :

i dont care, if they are cosmetic (why would i)
i dont care, if they are helping people advance faster (xp boosters, even stats boosters)

i DO care, if they are mandatory to keep up on top (pvp or pve).

So you're going from a game where money buys you costumes, to a game where money buys power? Makes sense.

Yep, makes totally sense since I won't play Diablo3 with anyone else than my RL friends and this time with no intention for competitive gaming (means no pvp or ladder runs).
RMAH Reaction Propably won't even try to sell something there Laughing

Oh and in hindsight, you'll will be able to buy power in GW2 sooner or later. The ingredients are already existing, seen in those terrific news Wink
I'd rather pay a monthly fee than having to cope with that bullshit.

But all this propably doesn't matter to you. So I'll add this (even though it's total bullshit):

I just can't afford to play two games with ingame shops. Rolling Eyes

Alternatively : Going from a game where you have to pay extra money to get access to every items, to a game where you have access to every items from the get-go.

And "buying power" means nothing in D3. Having stronger players just means stronger teammates when playing PvE.
And in PvP, you're matched to players with similar gear. Buying power will simply get you stronger enemies, it doesn't get you any advantage.

Personally I wouldn't skip GW2 due to microtransactions (as long as it's for superficial stuff) but since for a lot of people the appeal is only buying the base game and having unlimited access to everything (until expansions), I can see why it would be a bummer for some.

d3 : anything can be found and bought (traded, no real money involved) by anyone.

so i dont see the context

Doesn't mean it's not easier to buy it with real money.
