You do realize that this game is 100% fan-created and that the only thing EA has to do with it is that they told the fans making it that they won't issue them a cease-and-decist order to stop making fangames based on their copyrighted IPs, right?

Well, the voice acting is what'd you'd expect from a fangame, but aside from that, I think it looks amazing, for what it is. Really top-notch effort for a fangame, and it's amazing that the developers have stuck with this project for so long, finally seeing it to completion. I remember reading about this so many years ago on WCCIC...
Hey, would you rather have a "reimagining" of the series from EA themselves?

someone needs to learn the definition of sanctioned then, but thanks for clarifying and OP thanks for editing the OP to be more accurate and less misleading.

Yes, you do:
Merriam-Webster wrote: | sanc·tion / noun /ˈsaŋ(k)-shən
4c: explicit or official approval, permission, or ratification : approbation |
The fan team has been working on this fangame on their own for 10 years, and EA, as the holder of the rights to the Wing Commander IP, has given them official permission to use their IP and promised to not block them from releasing it (which they are legally and morally entitled to do, since it is infringing on their copyright).

here i'll correct you again, you're used to this obviously.
Quote: | sanc·tion (sngkshn)

b. The penalty for noncompliance specified in a law or decree.
5. A penalty, specified or in the form of moral pressure, that acts to ensure compliance or conformity.
6. A coercive measure adopted usually by several nations acting together against a nation violating international law.
tr.v. sanc·tioned, sanc·tion·ing, sanc·tions

a LOT of those could either way, that word has more than two meanings depending on it's use.

Okay, in this context (which you'd understand if you read the first two sentences of the linked article), they obviously weren't using the word to mean "To penalize, especially for violating a moral principle or international law" or "A coercive measure adopted usually by several nations acting together against a nation violating international law." In case you weren't aware, being able to understand context is kind of important to being able to comprehend language.
You said "someone needs to learn the definition of sanctioned then," indicating that you think the author of the article used the word incorrectly. Yes, the word means a couple different things (basically, it can refer to either permission to do something, a punishment for something, or a law), but by no means did they use it incorrectly. The definitions of the word meaning "explicit or official approval, permission, or ratification" and "Authoritative permission or approval that makes a course of action valid" and "Support or encouragement, as from public opinion or established customs" and "To encourage or tolerate by indicating approval" all fit the situation perfectly well, so I think the person who wrote the article pretty clearly knows what the word means.
So, again, why are you saying that they "needs to learn the definition of sanctioned" when they didn't use it incorrectly?

Excuse me, but you're the one who came into this thread about a free fangame thinking that EA made it themselves, or was otherwise in charge of it.

nah not really, those two letters always seem to to come along with the latest bullshit game for console derps is all.
i admit though, it was an uninformed opinion and will remain so until i can scrutinize the game in person.

LOL dat voiceacting....
no... just no. I'm all for supporting independents and fan based initiatives, but if it's shit it's not worth my time. Make something worth my time and I will play it.
Now, I go to see schoolplays. Not because I think it's a brilliant way to waste another hour of my life. You just have to if your own kids are playing in it. Luckily none of my kids are devs in this game so I don't have to play it. Thank God for that. Not that I don't think my 7 year old could've improved on dat voiceacting though.

nice one i'll try this. For a fan effort it looks commendable at least for the amount of effort they seem to have put in. 55 missions!?, you'll be lucky to get half that from a retail game let alone a fan made effort and the freespace2 engine can still hold it's own ever since it's source was released. Hope it plays well.

Well, it is running on the Freespace 2 engine, so that makes sense.

That's where you and me differ greatly, because I don't judge by cost, but by entertainment value. I'm not spending time on something I deem terrible just because it's free. I'd rather spend 50€ on something worth my time. Also it doesn't matter to me if there's a perfectly sound explanation on why the voiceacting sounds terrible. Only that it is.
Kudos to fans for sharing the work of their hobby. I'm sure they had a lot of fun developing it. A lot more fun than I would have playign this turkey at least.
Cedge: I decide what I judge a game on. I can decide what parametres are important to me. Your parametres are totally irrelevant to me.

They should've used the voice actors from House of the Dead 2.
