GDC 2012 SAN FRANCISCO – March 8th, 2012 – You’re wiping blood off the chinked armor you donned today, a mixture of your own sanguine fluid and the foe lying dead at your feet. Good thing you chose the poleaxe over a sword, it was the extra reach that gave you this particular victory, but will it save you from the crossbow bolt zipping toward your head? It won’t. You’ve just encountered your first glimpse into War of the Roses, and the battle has you thirsting for more.
Paradox Interactive and Fatshark today unveiled the first-ever gameplay trailer for War of the Roses, an ambitious and gritty multiplayer action game coming to PC, giving players a front row seat to an epic medieval battle taking place this fall—their own. The newly released video is the first in a set of gameplay trailers dubbed the “Death Before Dishonor” series, scheduled to be released in steady intervals until the game’s launch this fall. Over 60 different weapons to choose from, tiered skill trees within a fully-fleshed leveling system, team-based tactical challenges as well as deathmatches for soloists, and steel-in-your-face action are just a taste of what War of the Roses will offer.
Paradox Interactive and Multiplay have also teamed up to ensure that War of the Roses multiplayer mode is top notch and optimized for the large assortment of gaming rigs out there in the wild. Having been brought on during the pre-alpha stage of development, Multiplay’s primary role is to ensure that the multiplayer experience for War of the Roses is superior to other online real-time multiplayer games by offering consultation on improvements for server performance and latency.
“Much like Paradox, Multiplay is a company that’s community driven and is dedicated to its loyal fan base, I jumped immediately at the chance to collaborate with them again,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Senior Producer at Paradox Interactive. “They are experts in online PC gaming and their feedback during these early stages of development has proven to be invaluable, we couldn’t have picked a better partner to help us fine tune the online experience for War of the Roses.”
View “Death before Dishonor” episode 1 and don’t shake in your muddied mail boots just yet, the battle hasn’t even begun.

I'm excited, I've been longing for another Mount&Blade game or a clone of it.
It's not really a clone of M&B though. This is multiplayer-focused and entirely third-person.
Um, same as M&B? M&B is also multiplayer focused, and is entirely third person unless you want to switch to FPP, which seems to be the exact same case here (like aiming with a bow)
Besides, does anyone even play M&B in first person, aside from maybe better aiming?

M&B didn't even have multiplayer until Warband, nor is it the best part of the game.
Yes, I always play M&B in first-person, as will everyone who wants to do well in melee.
i'm guessing this won't have any of the rpg or strategic elements of m&b
which makes any comparison moot
also battles look really empty when there's not a hundred men gutting each other
would be nice to have this quality of graphics in m&b but i rather have the wider gameplay
Oh nice, finally some footage, been waiting for those ever since they first announced this last year. Rarely bother with MP anymore these days, but this is certainly appealing. There's a singleplayer campaign mode in the game too, so it's not completely focused on MP tho.
I've read that M&B2 won't have multiplayer and War of the Roses is made to compensate this. M&B Warband's MP is considered too difficult for the masses and WotR is majorly dumbed down.
How does it look derpy? Just because it seems so... off? That's because of the game's build, lots of things missing and most are unfinished. The combat itself seems to be even better than in M&B. Also, the customisation part will be truly awesome once finished.

Its in Pre-Alpha stage, dont expect it soon, it will be theyre big title, they are calling it "CoD and Battlefield of Medieval" big customization and loads of options.
I dislike the fact that even the developer call it a CoD and wants to do it in same way.
Only 64 players is kinda laughable actually. A full 200 player M&B Warband (or CRPG) server, that's where the epicness is. I prefer huge epic battles over some shiny and overused bloom and crap.
