Release date (Feb. 29) and pricing details announced.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/#news-flight_launch

For 1600 MSPoints (20$), you can buy the Hawaiian Adventure Pack, which contains the rest of the islands, 20 missions, new challenges and ONE plane.

Also, for 1200 points, you can buy the Maule M-7-260C with cockpit view.

For 640 points, the P-51 Mustang is also available, with NO COCKPIT view.

So, to sum it up, for more than 40$, you get a few islands, and a whooping number of FIVE planes (with the most (or only) interesting one having no cockpit view).

In contrast, for 30$, you can buy FSX Deluxe, with the entire globe, a fuckton of planes, jets and helicopters, mod support, etc.

I might play this for a little, but no way in hell I would pay this much for so little content. I don't give a flying fuck about missions and aerocaches. And the rest of the offering is laughably weak.

I can see why they removed the word "Simulator" from the title.

Tested it.This is complete garbage when compared to FS9 or FSX.Microsoft was in the flight sim for several decades. It clearly shows the new age of microsoft developers is braindead. They have no clue what made it successful for so long. This title will fail miserably and for good reason.

It won't fail any more than Take On Helicopters failed. They are targeting a completely different market with this game. Simulator was taken out of the title for a reason - it's no longer a sim and they aren't aiming it at sim enthusiasts. They're shooting for the casual players and they'll do just fine with that. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they're working on a full fledged sim title in the future though. We'll see I guess.

Personally I'm hugely disappointed with the game but it's exactly as I expected.

I haven't even reinstalled since it went live. Guess I should since they at least gave us codes for extra planes. Not much use in it though for me. I was surprised to find the VORs actually worked. It gives me a little hope that it might lead to them developing a real "sim" eventually since it's near pointless in this game.

We're excited to announce some upcoming DLC: journey with us to Alaska, with over 1.5 million square kilometers (~600,000 square miles) of captivating scenery, new aircraft and additional missions! Check out the screenshots below for an advance look.

Fuck that. They'll have some measure of success because that's what people are used to these days but they won't get shit from me.

Yup. They have screwed this one over for sure. It's a damn shame too, as I loved the FS series, and its kinda sad to see it end up like this.

You idiots are acting like paid add-ons are anything new for Flight Simulator. You could spend tens of thousands of dollars on all the third-party paid addons that exist for the old versions of FS.

Add-ons are fine, when the core game is worth it. This shit is a million miles away from FS1, which in itself, had the makings of great technical depth, thus led us to the finest flight simulator of all time, and now destroyed by admitting the 'arcade idiots' like yourself Smile

There are 'genre' for a reason, and this shit can remove itself from the 'simulation' category and leave with its head bowed in shame.

R.I.P FS Sad

Cry some more, then buy X-Plane. It's much better than FS was, anyways.

So what does X-Plane have to do with the price of bread? Confused Throwing it into the mix as a last resort at trying to make your point?

*Edit*

And if you are playing X-Plane, then surely you would be more shocked at this piece of trash than myself? Rolling Eyes

Of course paid addons aren't anything new. Do you have a clue? You realize that with MS Flight you get a tiny portion of the Hawaiian islands and one shitty plane by default? Anything further you have to pay for. You want the rest of the islands? Pay. More planes? Pay. Alaska? Pay. And on top of that, it's been pretty much consolized with a video game style hud and gamepad support. MS Flight is more akin to BIS's Take On Helicopters but with airplanes and Hawaii instead of helicopters and Seattle.

With FSX/FS2004/ETC you get a whole fucking game at least. You get the whole world. You get a bunch of aircraft. Thousands of airports. No thanks.

And x-plane? I'm all for the small developers but the whole tired overused "x-plane is the best everz!!1" argument gets a little old. In reality, it's no better than FSX. It has its own set of problems. Yeah, it's got a better flight model. Oooooh, blade element theory. *yawn* Oh joy, I can turn on some arrows to see the aerodynamic forces. blah blah blah fucking blah. It runs like shit. It looks like shit. And if you don't have a pretty good computer, it flies like shit. More importantly, to me, it just doesn't *feel* right.

I'm saying that if you don't like this game, then don't play it, and go play a flight simulator more suited to your tastes. I don't see why they can't both exist. It's not like Microsoft have gone and remotely deactivated/destroyed all copies of the prior Flight Simulator products.

I don't have a point to make, other than play games you do enjoy, and don't play games you don't enjoy, but have the sense to leave them alone.

Not at all. I think there's an audience for it, and I hope that people it's suited for enjoy it very much and have fun playing it.

And do you realize that you get that much for free? It's basically a demo.

But X-Plane is the best. But hey, if you don't like it as much as FSX, then play that instead. If you don't like Flight, don't play it. It's not for you.

Yeah, it's got a better flight model.

You say that as though it's anything less than the absolute most important thing in a flight simulator.

The FAA seems to think it "feels" right, so I'll trust their judgement over yours.

Never enjoyed those super complicated flight sims, quite enjoying this one though. ;p

Even though it's dumbed down so hard for people like me, I'm still awful at landing, haha.

What i don't understand is why people are suprised by what Flight is. It was obvious from the very outset that it would not be FSX 2012, anyone who did 5 minutes of research would have discovered this from day one.

I own FSX, X-plane10, Rise of Flight, Blackshark, DCS: A-10C Warthog, Aerofly FS... the list goes on. but they are all very different, i play which ever one fulfils my flying needs at the time.

Cedge has some very valid points there, I think mostly it's the FSX fans that are sore as fuck about Flight, and are acting as if MS owe them a new FSX and how dare they give us this shit! but seriously it was never meant to be what FSX is simple as that.

Now migrate to X-Plane or continue to use FSX until a replacement is made. I loved FSX but i have re-installed it three times in the past 2 months and deleted as many times. it's not for me anymore it's showing it's age and i have moved on from it.. R.I.P FSX Wink

So let me get this shit straight. You get a fucking jetski like airplane and a hawaii islands. And thats it? And i just found out the game is "free". And you buy the content. Like WTF? WHat the fuck we supposed to fly 747 from one island to another 200 km apart? Or will there only be fucking jetskis with wings? Like seriously....

You get one larger and one smaller island for free (if I remember right). You have to pay to even get the rest of the hawaiian islands. So to get five planes and all of hawaii you have to pay $42.97. I'm *guessing* Alaska will probably cost the same as Hawaii so tack on another $20 for two fucking states and whatever planes they throw in with Alaska. Probably be a damn bush Cub or something.

But the other guy was right. This is *exactly* what was expected. Simulator was dropped from the title for a reason. Smile

Without the airplanes like 737, 777, Airbus A320, 330 etc, this is pointless in my book. I only piloted commercial jet airliners in FSX, I don't care about flying small Cessna's around. Shame they did not include those.
