Wut? What does access to a beta have to do with piracy?

@Neon
I won't ever give money for something i can't even test. They don't give me a chance to test it so i'll pirate it to give it a chance. Yeah i know it will take a lot of time till there is a good server emu, but there will be at some point.

Fine, but what does ACCESS to a BETA, ie not final version of the game or even the mechanics, have to do with piracy? You don't get access to beta 99% of the time, if anything, you should be mad they won't release a demo.

If you're going to wait until there's server emulation (properly) you're going to wait a really, really long time.
Hell even now it took them what, 6 years to (somewhat) properly get a vanilla server emulated for world of warcraft.

The beta is good shit really, they simplified the deptness of D2 a bit (although only those that sleep in their grandmother's basement will care) and even though it's pretty hard to make any solid judgements when the cap is level 13 and you barely unlock any abilities, the general feel of the old diablo is definately there and if you loved the old diablo series and any games like it, you'll definately love D3.

For betakeys and shit, just keep a keen eye on twitter posts (look for diablo 3 beta or some shit) and their related facebook pages, have your bnet account open & ready to copy/paste a key into because its like the entire western world is trying to get keys for this thing.

Blizz has talked about offering a "Starter" edition of D3, just like they already do for Starcraft 2 and WoW. This means players will be able to try the early parts of the game before buying it. (Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same thing as the current beta)

From vanilla Blizzard WoW release to near perfect WoTLK emulation, sure.

Beta, Demo whatever. I just want to test the shit and see if its good. Im a Diablo fan and honestly wanted to buy this one, but i won't buy this just because it says Diablo. With these kind of politics they are not pushing me to actually give the money (Yeah i know they don't give a rat's arse about my thoughts). If they intend to make some offer like with SC2 and this starter edition or whatever it was then its my bad for talking to early. But i doubt they will do such thing with this one.

They said they wanted to do it, and are planning on doing it for all of their games in the future (since it basically acts as a demo, but let players keep playing the same account and serves as a great transition into the full game).

Now with that said, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't available as soon as the game is released. I could see a starter edition being released 3 or 6 months later. (Especially for the sake of their servers, giving every bnet account the ability to play D3 would lead to some crazy load in the first day/week)

I wonder how much Blizzard will cannibalize itself with D3. By that i mean people permanently shutting down their WOW subscription account and switch to D3 full time. Now i know that both games are quite different as one is an MMO and the other is not ect but Diablo has a very dedicated fanbase and i know many former D2 players who switched to WOW but intend to go back to D3 once it's out. Now of course D3 will never be the WoW killer but it's still going to be intriguing to see if it lose a couple of thousands of subs (or more) to D3. Blizzard can certainly absorb this but it's still a loss nonethless

I'm not even sure why i care since i don't play WoW and won't get D3 due to the lack of open world PK and carebear tendencies. It's sort of interesting from a marketing/business pov i guess.

does not compute ... If you have seen the latest shareholder press release from activision blizzard you would know they sold a million yearly passes, thats a million people who payed for wow a year upfront 120+usd to get d3 free on release ...

talk about cattle giving their money away for a game that has been stripped of all its features and gameplay elements by now, no cool boss monster fights, all scripted shit (that big boss from e3 , youl never get to see it as they showed it there) and a bloody boring gfx engine and UI.

yeah i dont see, why people would quit wow for d3. First off, its not really the same audience, but even those who still play wow (and dont think about quitting soon) wont have a problem playing both games.

The game is fine...ish, I guess. Not worth buying as far as I'm concerned. I'll play it if it will get cracked, if not, I don't care. Path of Exile is way better than this as a game, but also as a Diablo game. By that I mean, PoE is much closer to what the first Diablo was and that's what I prefer.

The beginning of the beta was quite meh.
The end, when I finally reached the last area + killed the Skeleton King was actually much more interesting.

I was finally fighting a larger group of mobs at the same time + finally fighting stronger mobs.
It wasn't a challenge yet, but it felt better than the previous areas.

It's just a shame that's where the beta ends.

Blizzard: Diablo 3 Release Date Unaffected by Job Cuts

Quote:
As reported by IGN earlier today, Blizzard Entertainment has cut some 600 jobs, largely from positions that had nothing to do with game development. Mike Morhaime, President of Blizzard Entertainment, took to the official Battle.net forums to clarify what these job cuts entailed. In short, some areas of the company have become overstaffed, which in turn has made it necessary to part with a number of their colleagues today.

So how will this affect you and the games you enjoy from Blizzard? According to Morhaime it doesn't appear this will affect any of the current and in-development properties like Diablo 3 and Blizzard DOTA:
I also want to emphasize that we remain committed to shipping multiple games this year, and that our development teams in particular remain largely unaffected by today's announcement. We're continuing to develop, iterate, and polish Blizzard DOTA, Diablo III, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, as well as other, unannounced projects. We'll have exciting news to share in the coming weeks regarding Diablo III's release date, and will soon be holding a private media event to showcase the latest work on Mists of Pandaria. It goes without saying that we're working hard to get all of these games in your hands as soon as possible.
Best of luck to everyone who lost their jobs today.

the main draws of a diablo game, which are to level up and improve your character's gear, are pointless in the beta (lvl13 cap, weak enemies even without reaching the cap) so many people feel discouraged, but that's not a problem the full game will have.
