Actually, "warfighter" and "warfighting" are real-world terms used by militaries and defense contractors and training organizations around the world, and have been around for many years:
http://www.jfsc.ndu.edu/schools_programs/jaws/
http://nedp.nps.navy.mil/home/pages/joint_courses.php
http://www.marines.mil/unit/mcwl/Pages/Welcome.aspx
http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/idiq/mai/wff/index.html
http://www.public.navy.mil/subfor/hq/PDF/Undersea%20Warfighting.pdf
http://www.soc.mil/swcs/swmag/archive/SW2401/SW2401SpecialOperationsAsAWarfightingFunction.html

And besides, it's already been used in a game name. Nobody thought "fuck yeah this is a wicked war game where you fight war itself!" about Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.

Yes but that was in 2006, 5-6 years of nextgen uber-linear scripted Call of Duty clones taught us to be always on the defensive when it comes to first person shooters. Razz

Go ahead and be defensive about the scriptedness. It probably will be. But that's not what he was talking about. He was only talking about the name, specifically, the term "Warfighter," as though EA made that term up, or as though people would think "fuck yeah this is a wicked war game where you fight war itself!" or whatever.

Can people not stay on topic for 5 seconds?

wasnt able to finsih the first game , after killing so many civilians i couldnt handle being a warcriminal anymore knowing those things happen on a daily basis for the past 10 years in afghanistan.

back in the tie fighter days it was cool to be the bad guy, now.... its morally questionable

You think they won't? The word exists, it doesn't mean they'll interpret it the way it was intended to be, that's giving them way too much credit.

I think people will be paying more attention to the "Medal of Honor" part, and expecting another modern warfare FPS, which it will be. I don't think many people are going to misinterpret the game as you literally fighting the metaphysical concept of war itself, as madil seemed to state. Nobody thought that about GRAW.

Well, that's because the console generation simply knew the game as "Ghost Recon". So you're probably right in that noone will pay attention to the Warfighter part here either.

I disagree. Ask console player what comes to his mind after "Ghost Recon", and 87.9% (totally legit figure) will say "GRAW" or "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter". Most of them have not played any other GR.

Only thing that interests me in this is seeing how well Frostbite 2 will run.
Probably DL'it just because of that too, thought about doing that with NFS: The Run but... Reaction

Quote:
-Developed by Danger Close (both single and multiplayer)
-Frostbite 2.0
-Releasing October 2012
-The story continues to be about Tier 1 Operators.
-The story is also written by Tier 1 Operators, and loosely follows actual events and operators.
-Now working with over 24 operators for information and feedback, since they were quite happy with MoH1 and a lot more volunteered to help.
-They're not talking much about multiplayer yet, but we did get a few details.
-The multiplayer will include various international tier 1 factions (British, Australia, German, Polish) and some kind of one-shot, one kill hardcore mode.
-There will also be a co-op mode, but the game won't have full campaign co-op.
-"There are hook in our multiplayer that are... different."
-Besides just the missions, the game's plotline will focus on the personal issues operators face. One example given is about a strained phonecall between an operator and his wife.
-The main characters of the previous games return.
-One of the missions takes place in Isabela City in the Philippines after it has been flooded by a typhoon, creating a venice like scenario with knee high water.
-Again, as it's based on real events, they don't want the game to feel like a Michael Bay movie, so you won't see things like the Eifel Tower exploding.
-However, since it is Frostbite 2, you will see things like the level chipping apart, papers flying, chandeliers swinging, and other things that are more plausible in a combat situation.
-You will sometimes have multiple choices when faced with a situation. One example given is during a hostage rescue, you reach the door to the room the hostages should be in. You can either kick it in, C4 it, throw a grenade in, or use a flashbang. This will presumably change how the next part plays out tactically.
-The rest of this section involves trying to escape the city with two hostages in tow and one of your teammates bleeding out. It's implied there's some kind of time pressure here, but not explicitly stated if there's a clock.
-OXM notes that the biggest difference between the game's campaign and other modern warfare shooters will again be tonal, so if you're wondering if you will like the game's campaign, ask yourself if you want a more polished/improved version of Medal of Honor 2010.
-I imagine this is the mission we'll see at their March 6th conference.

Soo.. more of the same, with a "different" multiplayer.

they would have had to have learned a HELL of a lot from the travesty that was the MOH reboot, if this game is going to be any good.

step number one: dont portray an elite soldier as a bearded tosser that wears DARK SHADES AT MIDNIGHT.

of course thats only the first step on a looooooooong list of shit that needs fixing.

Special Forces are the exception when it comes to facial hair;

Quote:
‘Spot the Green Beret’ is an easy chore at Firebase Cobra, a remote American outpost in Oruzgan province, central Afghanistan. The U.S. Army Special Forces (Airborne) soldiers invariably wear beards. This in contrast to clean-shaven Dutch Major General Mart de Kruif, the outgoing commander of some 40,000 NATO troops in Southern Afghanistan and his entourage.

Yup, it's not rocket science.

Or are they supposed to do recon and infiltration missions with a perfect shave and a proper haircut? Laughing
Dumbass tatoos and mohawk(soap lol wut) hair styles is where I'd draw the line, though.
