They did say that Demo had this 2GB limit and that they made it just for (Low?) Quality to be like "max" quality, so i guess final product will be much better in Graphics, AND i hope with animations.. (Its not like i notices it that much, but still)

Yes that's correct. I believe due to some LIVE limitations demo was kept ~2GB, so they probably didn't bother making it separately for the PC. So thats why I think the final game will have better textures/animations.

Since when demo limitations cause developers to create retardedly bad animations instead of the ones found in the final version? Laughing

It's standard EA marketing guys.

Back when BF3 was in beta (demo) they pulled the same joke. "Don't worry guys, graphics and destruction have been toned down just for the beta, release will be leaps better" Laughing

Now what this does is give the blind fanboys a reason to flame everyone who criticizes the game: "stop complaining, it's just a demo!!!!, the retail will be the second coming of Jesus, trust us"

What I don't understand is why they touched the animations at all from previous games. Running animations were just fine in ME2. So what was the point of this shit? Laughing

But going from Dragon Age 1 to Dragon Age 2 I can understand. Console derpas won. But here there is no win. In fact, it will probably bother console derpas more than PC gamers (if the game was really good and that was its only flaw). So what happened? Scratch Head

Well apparently holstering your weapon takes up too much RAM, so that feature was removed. Perhaps animations are the same? Cool Face

.... no, honestly, there's no logical answer and no matter what BioWere throw out; it'll just be bullshit. I simply cannot fathom why they make these kinds of decisions. I really can't.

BioWere, eh? Something that worked just fine in the first two games is now removed because... memory limitations..? really? It's ok though, they'll reevaluate the game a few weeks after launch and suddenly find they can put holstering back in! For a mere €4.99/800MSP of course!

EA giving very little time for development and not to mention the demand of MP. If BW will reuse older animation people will call them out on it (like they did for DA2).

DA:O was in development for around 5 years and it shows. DA2 for less than 2 and look at the result.

Sweet zombie Jesus i thought you guys we're shitting me with the no RAM bullshit, turns out the removal of holstering weapons is:

It's unfortunate, but sadly it was needed to claw back a significant chunk of memory.

Something tells me people wouldn't be annoyed if the HOLSTER/UNHOLSTER animation was the same as the first two games, come on dude.

I googled "Mass Effect animator" and look what I got:

To be honest, people got pissed at BW for recycling AREAS, not animations. I don't think many people cared whether Isabela walked the same way she did in DA1. As long as the original animations are done right, it doesn't matter if they're reused in later games (IMO at least) -- I'd rather have the animations from ME2, which were - for the most part - smooth and realistic, compared to the "Oh crap, I just shit my pants! Quick! Point me to the nearest toilet!" running bullshit we've got now.

... oh and the fact that you run around with your arm held out stretched like it was in a cast

Got a source for that, please? Memory != hard disk space. Saying "we had to claw back a significant CHUNK OF MEMORY" is no relation to disk space cost and/or fitting with the 2GB limit of XBL demos.

No Rolling Eyes

It's a runtime memory cost, not a disk space issue. You need those anims for the non-combat areas... so they're going to be on disk regardless.

In order to support exploration in the combat areas, you'd need to have all the anims loaded in memory... so that would be things like the 8-way walks, runs, incline anims, idles, idle twitches, male/female variant overrides, eye noise... etc.

All in all (iirc) it came out to around 2-4MB, which is relatively significant. Also, as you've guessed, yes - I'm referring to the main game (as well as the demo).

It freed 2-4MB Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well, these 2-4 extra megs allowed them to add those awesome sprites of fleeing people - so it's a worthy tradeoff! Cool Face
