it got the best rpg from E3 2005

Quote:
Best Role Playing Game
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
(Bethesda Software for PC / Xbox 360)
One of the first games to be declared for “next generation consoles” but demonstrated on the PC, Bethesda’s latest installment in the classic Elder Scrolls franchise enjoyed a virtually flawless E3 presentation. We expected the spectacular visual style (and hope for even more realistic detail when running on final Xbox 360 hardware), but were still blown away by the scale and detail of this open-ended world. NPCs fulfilling regular daily routines, accurate lip-synching helping convey emotion in the dialogue, as well as supplying the location to the nearest creatures to batter, and a lush game world to explore sets up Oblivion as a true next generation RPG. In crafting a living, breathing fantasy world to explore, Bethesda seems well on track to eclipse the critical and commercial success of Morrowind.

I always played normal morrowind without mods... anyway the game is soo big I never managed to get trough it and I didn't want to install mods who would f*ck up the gameplay since there are soo many and can change everything

I tried hard to like Morrowind. I love RPGs above all. But Morrowind was very static and soulless in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good game. I just didn't get the feel of it. The combat in Morrowind wasn't very intresting. Still looking forward to this though..

Never have I devoted so much time playing a game other game than Morrowind and its two expansion packs. It had a few annoying bugs and crashed at least once every sitting but despite it's age, I would say it's the most immersive game I have ever played.

May the NFOrce be with you always.

Agree with Supino, and I watched the video which seems to suggest more than it actually displays. We'll see, the graphics are top notch at the very least. Combat still looks to be uninspired however.

Is it true the game won't have experiance points? Meaning it will be more action adventure.

I think its going to be the same system as in morrowind... what you do a lot will level you up. Its going to be more balanced though...

Combats are not interresting? Hey this is the best way to have combat ever.... it it based on lots of stats you have to determine if you hit or not and by how much but it still is in real time so you could kill a 10x stronger creature if you plan your moves correcly, that's good, way better than those turn based combat like final fantasy games. I can't really understand why you say that because it's the best part of the game (with skills developing on-use like Ultima Online)

well, first of all, final fantasy is Not representative of all turn-based games. try a game like temple of elemental evil or any of the fallout series and you will see that some are much more complex and strategic than any realtime game to date. also, in my opinion anyways, most find the combat to be not interesting because of the way that the combat system is hack'n'slash in such that you keep bashing the enemy till he dies, without much interaction. true with magic and ranged weapons its not quite as that basic and with mods its not quite that way. but still beyond the stats(which are mostly hidden and/or not explained very well), the combat is really basic and happens in a hurry. most of the time you dont even get a chance to plan your attack, the enemy is in your face before you know what hit you. i am hoping combat will be more interactive and interesting in the new one.

yeah and you can even use "use best attack" and you just need to click, click, click... Morrowind was a great game but the combat was extremely lacking, even the devs agrees that it indeed was quite awful, therefore they're changing it in Oblivion. In Gothic 1-2 the combat was extremely well executed, i think it'll be something similar and much more fun than it was in MW.

The video didn't show any differences to me apart from graphically of course?

It was very unsatisfying in Morrowind, I can't wait for an RPG game where fighting is not a normal everyday borefest but something unique and challenging.

The combat is supposed to be more like Gothic-1-2 / Combat Enchanced-mod for MW (the guy that did the mod got hired by Betheseda to do the combat in Oblivion, as far as i know).. It's not at all like MW. It may look the same on a video, but you cant "see" how it's performed by the player.

I've been following Oblivion and the combat looks better but not exactly its selling point. It has been set up with a block key and an attack key but ontop of that they have added a 'recoil' system. Whereas when you get hit, you get knocked back and you knock back people ect.

Thats for close combat, ranged is alot better now because of physics (they arc properly and impact properly). Haven't heard alot on magic, but for once each different 'class' (combat, magic, stealth) should be able to stand up for itself.

Like I said, better, but not godlike. Nevertheless the combat system was hardly what I found interesting in MW, I'm sure it won't matter in OB.

They should go the Gothic-Way, and i hope Gothic3 will go that way too!

Boiling Point runs better at max settings than on lower settings, i get pretty good framerates with 6800LE, P4 3.2GHz, 1GB DDR RAM.. on lower settings it's much more laggy for most people.. Really looking forward to 2.0 patch..

This is a 20 minutes video showing off the game, It weights around 130 mb and is in decent quality. There is also a 1.33 gb version of the video flooting around, but since the only place I could find it was on a torrentsite which post other stuff, I'm not going to post the link here.

The movie is really awesome and I find myself wanting to play this gamet.

from the other thread Wink
