I think the beta is available for download now, for those that have an access code, of course.

Now, let's see, does this leak or not? Very risky of them doing a beta - which might as well be feature complete ...

From what i've heard of one of the testers it's just a small portion of the game, takes 4h to complete.. it's probably going to end up as a demo.

Looking at those screens, the NPCs seem to have a little more comical but personalized look to them, which is good. Thansk ixi. Btw, where are the screens from? |
They're from DSOGaming ( http://www.dsogaming.com/news/new-risen-2-dark-waters-screenshots/ , they added a couple more in the meantime). Don't know if they're from the beta or not, though

I hope they don't go overboard with the humour. I like humour in my games, but the screens and art style make it seem like they're doing hardcore comedy.

No, it's really not like that. That's PB's visual style since Gothic III. I really don't mind it since it looks somewhat unique.

Maybe it's only the screenshots, they do give me a "look how funny we are" vibe with the smug faces and the cartoony graphics. I don't remember Risen 1 looking so cartoony, but it's been a long while since I've played it. I miss Gothic 2 I guess.

Colours are more vivid this time around, that's the main difference I see. The palette is brighter. Or maybe it's the console bloom, can't know for sure yet.
What I do know, is that PB won't make a joke out of a setting - if they went with this setting it will be as serious as Risen's was.

maybe you can switch between euro and US, like in the first Risen?
Have they said anything about that already?
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

That's the GameStar preview that has been available only for the subscribers until now. Some of you may have seen it though, since there was a mistake some time ago and it was available for everyone for a day or so. So yeah, nothing really new, but that's the PC version (the same alpha build though).

Well that looked very good, much better than the videos posted until now
Also we can see that the atmosphere is "serious" and definitely not cartoony /me is excited

GameZone - interview with Peter Brolly: http://www.gamezone.com/videos/risen-2-dark-waters-gamezone-s-exclusive-interview
Also, what someone from the WoR forums thinks about the game after he played the "beta test":
| foobar wrote: | As short notice for those who are interested: I think the game (as far as I can tell from the demo) still feels like a PB game. Although you can recognise their old strengths, some of them have been shifted into the background and became less... tangible. Others are still there.
My rough estimation for the full game: It will probably be a good game and fun to play. But it won't be a milestone like Gothic 1/2, like something that will be used as a measurement for games to come even ten years from now. So, as always, it'll depend on your expectation whether or not you'll enjoy it. |

This is a buggy buggy game, but it has the potential of being great if the story keeps the way it's going and they balance the combat a little. Really like it.
