Aye, it seems a few Steam games are completely compatible with Origin. So far my legit Steam copies of; Dead Space, Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2 have all got keys that register on Origin too.

I registered my Dead Space 2 key, from Steam, on Origin just after I bought it. But so now Steam works with Origin and automatically transfers keys over?

It might be it scans the registry and finds serials that can be registered, then registers them automatically?

This is going to fan the flames of the whole "EA spyware" thing, I'm sure. Very Happy

Does anyone have a list of which keys which can be redeemed on Origin? Also.. an explanation? Laughing Yeah, like Pixie said; this is definitely going to cause more "Origin spys on you while your masturbate!" thing Very Happy

~edit~

http://forums.techieanalyst.net/f94/steam-game-redeemable-origin-286/

Seems this thing goes back quite a while... right back to mid 2011. Shame it's not viable the opposite way around. I've got DA Ultimate on Origin but no Steam, yet the Origin key doesn't work on Steam.. Sad

I would dearly love publishers to get together and make all their serials registerable on all the digital distro clients out there - it would not only cut down on piracy, but also open up consumer choice, and mean no company could act as a monopoly in the digital distro world. People would have the choice to use Origin, or Steam, or whatever.

*dreams*

Of course it works only one way, EA wants you to use their own service, not some 3rd party platform that'll cost them extra.

Darkspore key also attempts to register into Origin (tells you the game is correct and even asks which region you want) but then says "code already applied" So yeah.. that doesn't work either. Not for me at least.

thats what origin does, that so many people were scared of.

the whole scanning your pc discussion.

Origin, at launch, checks your installed applications (that includes games ^^) to see if any game available on steam is installed (registry) and will then add it to your installed games list.

I think it simply checks the registry for Electronic Arts /EA entries.

Yeah.
Pops up a choice between regular and digital deluxe and then links you to that useless entitlement or whatever page.

Best way is to get in touch with someone from live chat, one of those guys helped me getting Mass Effect and Crysis on my account.
Although it only worked at the third try, first guy was an asshole and I couldn't talk with the second guy since the live chat window derped. Laughing

Well, from my experience it's useless alright.
Mass Effect showed up as activated, bla bla bla but no code and it wasn't added to my account.
With BC2 it says that the code was already activated.

Whatever, I see no reason to add BC2 to my origin account. Razz

No-one wants to force a friend to use Origin?

Also, it might be EA will do something dick-ish relating to them. Which seems unlikely/impossible. But it is EA.

if the game has MP you
1) can't play together on the same server
2) will be banned if your friend get's banned...

so... not really the best idea to give your key to someone else... Rolling Eyes

various gaming programs did that since 1995.. anyone who complains about registry scanning is complete moron , 90% of programs you install scan your registry during installation alone, not to mention 99% of executable ones does every time you use them, scanning its own entry is exactly same as origin on start-up checking registry for games "it" might have added, fact that its already there doesnt change a thing,
