no. i don't want to take in a macbook with me  since it's the brand of the world, it'd get tossed and turned and nicked before i even say hey stop that man he's stealing my computer in vague spanish. so just need a simple laptop that if it returns with me from this trip will work as a secondary laptop.

and gateway isn't bad. and asus isn't as reliable as you may think it is.
it's all about warranty and customer service

I can't play any games on trip never. I jsut can't get into anything more than netbook or android games. Thats why I have my n150 samsung netbook which holds up to 7 hours of battery! and it plays 720p mp4 movies! offcourse forget about 3d games on a shit like this.
And I've heard plenty of good things about macbook air. Especially folks at giantbomb and tested. but againg. mac games?

steam offers mac alternatives. indie games (some for macs) hl series, portal 1 and 2, l4d 1 and 2 run on macs. Even rage was made for mac. There's plenty of you can do on a macbook air, heck even onlive, which i've tested at home and it isn't THAT bad for certain games and once you get used to the input lag it can work well. But no i need a decent laptop by the end of this week to run photoshop among other things and needs a built in card reader lol. I already found a water proof camera that I need to purchase all I have left is a laptop. I might go for the gateway one since it'll run most of todays games on low quality at decent rates and I'm not a pc elite whore who needs superb graphics on the go.

If you want reliable go with Lenovo. I always recommend them and I've yet to have a complaint. Hell, ask Tainted how reliable it was lol, his poor thing saw the 5 corners of hell and still survived.

Alright leave the blind hate aside. It's stupid and idiotic to just hate apple products for no reason other than it being expensive. It just sounds like jealousy. And that is just bullshit trolling. I can easily justify buying a mac product for work. I spend 3000k and I make three times as much back. If I buy a 1K+ leveno (ones available at shops here) it's a lot worse than an 800 dollar dell.

Now that I'm home...
Ya I hear ya waldo, they're a bit pricey for the hardware you get with the tag but it trades off in solid build quality among a few other things.
Acer's turned their quality around big time as far as laptops go the last couple years. I used to absoultely hate them but I had my buddy get one since it was in his price range and I was quite impressed on how well they're built now, and it's NOT a bad price either.
You can get some pretty impressive hardware for not that much.

You get an Intel i5 and an AMD 6550M which can run pretty much everything at decent framerates on high, maybe better if you trade off shadow quality and the likes. If you're an nVidia guy they have the same builds with a gpu of the same range as well.
These are the models I've had experience with and they're a steal. The only drawback to this is the same with most laptops, is that it only has a 5400RPM HDD

People bitch about the heat with these things but that's going to be any laptop that's sporting this kind of hardware. My buddies would still be working if the idiot didn't drop it on the floor with the lid up.
Outside those acers, your next step are the Asus gaming models which are really nice, they just don't have the best build quality when it comes to the outer shell.

my nephew has the 10h model and it runs bf3 and what not. and it's sporting 540M.
and it's a laptop i can pick up this weekend or even tomorrow on my way to work. y'know. If i thought of this sooner, i'd prolly would go with newegg and ship it to me asap, but since they don't deliver on weekends and i work 9-6... it'd be almost impossible for me to get it. and if they ship with dhl which is one delivery only and then get to markham (end of the world for me) to pick up a parcel from a place that closes at 7... lol no.
