Yes mate that's it. I think this was just a hardware test to make sure no one has any issues before release and to report any problems.

You keep talking about it like they've spoiled all the plot details. All I've seen about that is that you're some prisoners in a big mountain dungeon prison and you're trying to escape. The rest of what they've been posting is pretty much all just game mechanics and features, like the map system or character classes, and bits of content like monsters and stuff like that.
They've even been specifically censoring their changelog posts.
What are these spoilers you're talking about? Because I'm going through the blog now and all I'm really seeing is stuff like "tweaked skeleton archer audio volumes and distances", "Added support for treasure maps", "Player movement has been adjusted: the screen now bobs when you move", "Created 2 new dungeon levels with emphasis on puzzles", and stuff like that. I've read each new blog post, and yeah, I know how the magic system works, but I certainly don't think I know EVERYTHING about the game. And aside from that, it's a traditional dungeon crawler. These kinds of games aren't known for being very surprising.
And stop trying to speak for all "gamers." Just speak for yourself. Looking at their blog comments, I'd say a majority of people are very happy about what they've shared.

2004? What the hell are you on about? The studio was founded 12 months ago. The staff were all working at Remedy and Futuremark until just before that, and I don't know if they even knew each other that long ago. Are you mistaking this with some other game?

Thanks for the link Overlord, I was just looking through my bookmarks and history to post it up -- I originally had this link, from TWO THOUSAND AND ONE with Dungeon Master 2000, which then became Escape from Dragon Mountain which then became legend of Grimrock.
http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21366
It's been eleven years (not several as I erroneously said, dear me) since Petri started working on what has now become Legend of Grimrock and you have never seen, nor will you ever, me say a bad word about the company or the people involved. The earlier prototypes were tantalisingly enjoyable, this one looks lightyears ahead and several magnitudes better, but leave it to Dredge to throw a baby tantrum whenever someone says anything even remotely negative about... well, any company at any time whatsoever. I physically shudder to think of the nuclear rage he would enter into if he ever saw my opinion and comments towards AVTI. Sheesh. I would be indirectly responsible for the destruction of half the human race Still, no matter.. it's not like anyone really pays attention to him afterall.
In the meantime; roll on Grimrock!! Pllease stop teasing us and just announce a release date already!

The only things that have been spoiled form me are, Main music theme. that should be experienced that when first loading the game. quote: strong emotional impact. well that's buggered because people have already heard it.
Monsters, too many monsters have been revealed, i'm very sure there will be many more. but i remember when i played dm and encountering new monsters, it was exciting. now it will be oh yeah it's the spider, mushroom, rotting warriors, flying bat, flying ... ect and there are only 15 planned creatures for release unless that has changed.
There's much much more they should have kept under wraps but that's just my opinion. There's just too much info that isn't needed, i'm glad they keep a weekly blog for people that want it. I have stopped reading them now.

Fantastic find. I was sad that nothing happened with it and when I saw the first screenshots of LoG I thought of this old test game. it was so promising to see something like an old school dungeon crawler in the proper Dungeon Master style. Didn't realize it was the same person/people behind it! I'm glad after so many years we'll get a real game from them. Fingers crossed for a full revive of the genre.

Absolutely! I've taken to playing cheap'y indie titles to get my fix, games like Frayed Knights and Dark Delve, both of which are fun -- but Dungeon Master they're not.

honestly, downloaded that beta hardware test thing, didn't expect much, didn't get much.
looked around the site a bit more in case they finally posted a release date instead of being infuriating cockteases still, reminded myself that they're going for linear and probably less than 20 hours and no randomly seeded dungeons.
i have trouble giving a shit at this point.

That's a good thing. Nothing beats hand-crafted dungeon puzzles. And as Sabin said, creating maps will be easy enough so plenty of player-made content.

The mistake people here are making is assuming that the developers know the release date themselves and are keeping it from you just to spite you for some reason. At best, they might have an idea of the date/window that they're hoping to go gold, but that's quite a different thing from a release date, depending on their plans for distribution channels. Depending on a lot of very unpredictable factors, it could be weeks or months after the game is actually done, before you're able to buy it. It's simply the nature of the business.
They don't know the damned release date, and they aren't trying to make you miserable by keeping it from you. Grow up and out of the paranoid victim complex.

I wasn't going to post anything more related with Grimrock until the game get released.
But I saw this screenshot, and damn, it looks good as usual so I decide to share it.
So please who thinks this is spoiling their future fun in playing the game, please, don't look at it.
Quote: | Earlier today I noticed my Facebook feed had some Rebecca Black links again. It could only mean two things: first, the current state of pop music is appalling, and second, it’s Friday and therefore it’s time for another weekly update!
On last update we mentioned some new tweaks on the GUI and now I’ve got a screenshot to illustrate the matter:
Spoiler: | |
So, what we essentially did was merge the portraits and attack buttons into one area instead of having them spread out in two opposite corners. Now you can access inventories of the characters, do some attacking and spell casting or shuffle the marching order all from the same area. To get there, Petri and Juho spent days talking only in a strange language that consists solely of numbers and single letters:
“X?”
“152.”
“Y?”
“Y? … 10.”
So, to those of you who have been saying that the UI spread across both corners is stupid, I raise my hat to you sirs. You have been right all along! Even if it took a lot of iterating to get all the pieces to fit together perfectly, this layout is much better to use.
We also made the pressure plates (you know, the pads on the floor you can place items on or walk over) larger. It’s a change that unfortunately looks a little silly compared to the old, smaller plates but the trade-off was necessary since we need the player to be able to pick up items off of the pressure plate easily if he stands in the same square. This just goes to illustrate that often in game development there are no perfect solutions and that gameplay and functionality should be more important than the quality of visuals (or at least this is how it definitely is for us, I’m not making any comments regarding “mainstream games” ).
Also, we’ve been working on dozens of small icons but we’ll talk more of those a little later.
And finally, as some of you might have noticed, we’ve been struggling in keeping these pages online reliably and earlier today we exceeded our host’s bandwidth limit again (during the last 30 days we’ve had over 270GB of traffic). I know, it’s a so called “positive problem” but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do anything about it so we’re going to migrate to a more solid and scalable hosting solution within the next few weeks… If you want to you can hurry us up if you make the problem more critical by increasing the load of the site by, for example, spreading the link everywhere!
And hey, currently it seems that next week we could be ready to tell you something regarding the release of the game but we’ll have to wait and see! Have a good weekend everyone.

I can't wait! Really, really looking forward to this... probably more than I should, given the propensity for disappointment these days, but damn if this isn't really making me drool. Thanks again Roger!
