I've played three missions or so, and it's not terrible, but JA2 1.13 is still quite superior.

Maybe I have too much experience with JA2, but I find the lack of FoW makes things pretty easy. Ambushing enemies one by one is simple when you always know exactly where they are. You can also see their sight cones, which also makes it easier.

Maybe it's just the beginning that's easier, since the badguys start with axes and a handgun here and there. I remember them being quite well-equipped in JA2 while you only had pistols. Plus you were dropped on Omerta: you didn't take the airport right away.

I can't comment much on the AI, since I seldom give them a chance to fire back and maneuver much. Very Happy

Based on the first hour of gameplay, it looks like a much lamer version of JA2. What a pity Sad

I sorta like the transition they made into the 3D world, but I just can't bare the fact that they took out so many features that even the vanilla version had. it's ridiculous.

Is it just the pirate version that has the bug where in some games you can't get back to the airport? The icon never shows up and you can't right click to enter it.Only solution I've found online is to start a new game and it *might* work after you clear it.

I thought the same at first as well, but make sure you have a squad selected to go back. I know that sounds stupid, but I didn't realize it defaulted to nothing selected initially.

So, left click on a squad (A, B, C, etc...) and then right click on the airport icon. That SHOULD work. But it is buggy so it might not Sad.

No, it's a definite bug. Some games you start, clear the airport, and the icon for the airport won't show up so you can't right click and tell your squad to enter that location. I just started a new game and it works fine after that (so far).

Which is for the best anyway because I picked some shitty dudes to start with. This time I picked Raven to start with to take over the airport. With the assault rifle she starts with it was relatively easy (too easy) to take over the airport with her alone. Then leave/come back and sell some of the free equipment you get to hire a medic. Then while waiting for him go get the diamonds and bring them back and get enough to hire another medic/marksman. Just need to take over more places now and get myself a good mechanic so I can repair weapons.

Yeah, the game isn't anywhere near as good as its turn-based brethren but it's ok for casual fun. It had potential and still could be pretty decent if they'd fix some of the problems. Starting with letting you scroll by moving the mouse to the edge. WTF where they thinking?

I'm honeslty actually enjoying this game, because it's free. I'm going to wait til it hits the bargain bin before I buy it (just because it has Jagged Allaince on it). Surprised

There are already mods out there that change certain things, such as weapon stats and such. Then there's one that actually adds "new" weapons.

Never played the old games, so this is all quite fresh to me. Apart from the godawful voiceacting, I'm quite enjoying the game.

The bad voiceacting is part of the game tbh, the first one's also had cheesy voiceacting (but that was kind of it's charm).

Also, you don't know what you're missing if you havenb't played the other games, they had so much more to offer than this does when it comes to gameplay. :O

glad to see it's not just players shitting on this game, TB beats it bloody in his mailbox for today and rightly so.

i lied, i tried the first mission, got noticed from thousands of feet away while supposedly crawling flat on the ground "stealthy", i lost nearly all hope when i realized that wasn't a fluke.

Just noticed that it updated, as I usually do here's the files so far and NCF's should they be of any use.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/yx26e44lrzt4cci/jabia.rar
(I guess the asset files would work but the code changes in the exe would need to be cracked to work.)

I wish I could be of help but all I have is the EFIGS version with added (Well I guess it's the original.) Russian language so it seems I can't acquire those files unfortunately.

Actually I'll see what I can do though it might not be much but it might work come to think of it.
(Since one of the NCF's is language dependent it should function to switch but I only have some choices due to the edition of the game but I'll try.)

EDIT: I managed to acquire the Czech NCF file at least. Smile

Thanks, got it now. Very Happy

Hopefully there will be a content patch soon.
Meaning they'll add a global inventory, make gear a bit more durable since it's a joke right now and fix the militia to not be worthless.

Same. I think the VA was also intentional and part of it's charm as stated. I'm digging it in between other games hehe.

So if anyone hasn't updated it, then don't
The patch breaks more than it fixes.
Now you can't perform any actions on friendly soldiers for some reason. If one of your guys gets downed he won't come up again. Unable to repair items and such either....

V 1.06

- Fixed tank explosion played in a loop
- Fixed target for repair / heal not being accessible for mechanic / healer
- Cone preview is visible when changing stance or turning merc in command mode
- Additional target points on torso and head added to make aiming more flexible and critical headshots being less likely
- Fixed locations being inaccessible when defender count is zero
- Fixed crashes on combat start due to level loading without adding player squad
- Enforcing low terrain quality mode when free graphics card memory in high quality mode would be below 128MB
- Fixed tooltips on character portraits and quickslots
- Fixed blocked path on Overland_11

Well, looks like they fixed the issue where you were unable to heal/repair after patch 1.05... -.-

I'm really enjoying this so far. I took over about 5 locations so far and really got into the groove of the mechanics. I find it very fun.

I'll say this though. I've played a lot of JA1 and JA2, and while this game is kind of evocative of these games, it feels very different. Even it being a remake of JA2, something about the style of this game does not entirely evoke the feel of JA2.

It might very well be the lack of turn based combat. While I miss that mechanic the most, the 'pause' system they got in there is the next best thing and I can live with that.

I'm just really and honestly surprised that this style of game actually still exist in 2012 and is being sold in stores.

Alt + mouse left/right.

I'm enjoying it as well. Not a demanding engine, but I do like how smooth it runs.
