*edit* Oddmaker: You can connect to IP's in demo too... It's in the Multiplayer section, and then it's in the bottom left of the server browser if I remember correctly.

You don't need CD-Key to connect to IP's only if you're connecting to cracked server..

I'm telling you guys, this is a game to be bought!
Too good to simply download and play... Add the fact that BF: Vietnam was a PIA to find cracked servers to play on and issues with the key and all that shit... No buying this game I am... *goes back to demo*

Those people at the start are friends of your friends. In this case Xfire adds a "test friend" when you first join. The people are see are people that havent deleted the test friend yet. Delete them and they all go away. After that the blue names are friends of friends. Everything else is people you have added.
Thus you now have an easy way to find all of us playing BF2.
I play a lot on 69.56.146.106 It's a pretty decent server. So on Xfire you will often see me listed as playing and on that server. Pretty easy right?

The only problems I've noticed have been with the cannon on the APC's and sniper rifles. Some times I swear when I am firing that cannon I am aiming abouve them where it shouldnt hit but it does. Sniper rifles tend to be very off at long range but that may be on purpose. Close quarters everything seems fine. No problems noticed.

yea sniper rifles can be very off and i like that, its very realistic, in most games you get a guaranteed hit if the enemy is in your aim when using a sniper, which is bullshit.
one thing they couldve done is implement info about the wind speed and the direction of it, so you could really learn to shoot like a sniper in reality.

Yes having more realistic sniper rifles would be nice. Also way too much work for the arcade type gameplay they are going for. There is also the fact that snipers primary role tends to be recon and not going out there any killing everyone in sight. Something I think every game ever made has overlooked. A nice compromise might be to bring back the swaying rectile like in BF1942. Atleast then you know where you need to hit. In this current solution you are just guessing.
Another thing I would like to see is the map have grids. How this was overlooked is beyond me. As a sniper in a high spot you can see pretty much the entire map. Being able to call out an enemy tank in grid coordinate B 7 would be very nice. Hell even atleast allow it so you can type the message it doesnt even have to be automatic. Also people currently can call in reports but you dont know where from. Having a map coordinate would be very helpful. If not that then for the love of good say what area they are in. If someone says enemy APC then tell me that they are at the hotel!
Another good feature would be for battle commanders and squad leaders to be able to place temp markers that autofade after a bit. So when that sniper spots that tank the commander can place a marker on the map saying there is a tank here. It might fade away after 15 seconds or so. Along with the other map upgrades I have listed I think it would much easier to gather intelligence and act efficently as a team or squad.

yea its too bad the grid with the coordinates is gone, sure when someone informs you about something or says he needs a pickup his position flashes on the map for a short time, but thats not enough, as you may forget his position soon after it stops flashing and more spots move there, or you just cant see that part of the map and have to enlarge it.
the coordinates just have to be there, they were a great help in bf1942.

|
 |
is this true that there is a clone release out?
even if it was released the main part of bf2 is the online play so i think everyone should just wait for it to go in stores and get legit cdkeys so you can play online ..
playing against bots isnt fun and gets boring very fast !

sueil, you must have missed something... If you hold down Q and select "Spotted" while looking at en enemy that enemy comes up as a flashing red icon on everyones minimap for 5-10 seconds. If you know someone is there but no where exactly you can look at a spot and right click on the Spotted button to get a menu where you can select what you think you saw, such as a sniper or whatever.
Same thing works for commanders/squadleader can rightclick on the map and select "Spotted" to indicate an enemy.
If your a squadmember/squadleader you can also press T use that menu to look at a spot and order artillery/supplies/UAV support. The squadleader can place "Move to"/"Destroy this"/"Mine here" etc. markers on the map via rightclicking on the map or the T menu.
That's basically the features you wanted?
Anyway, about the sniper rifles. They are meant to cover a flag at medium distance from say a nearby roof-top. If a good sniper could take out enemies from the crane to the beach (Gulf of Oman), that would be impossible to know from where those shots came. It would be nothing but annoying in the long run with everyone using the sniper class. The way it's in the game now, it's still good... it's just not godlike.

Yes that's some of what I wanted. Not all of it though. Having the radio message also give grid coordinates would be much more useful when used with the flashing symbol.
Also good snipers can already shoot from the crane to the beach. I do it all the time and get kills. I just want the rifle to be like it was before. Give it a sway so it takes skill. Not just guessing.
Another useful feature which I think would be good to steal from Planetside would be able to draw, use more symbols and type on the map for the commander. That way the map can also be more useful. Say place a symbol down showing a minefield. Being able to make marks of likely sniper post. Area's to avoid etc..
Also add an orders window. Your commander will be able to give spefific orders in an easy to find place. When new orders are issued you will see a message pop up somewhere near the edge of the screen where it wont be a bother but you will notice it. These can be simple orders like saying we have a shortage of medics. Leave a message asking for 3 people to stay at Olive Hill all the time or something like that. Squad leaders could also use this to give orders to squads. You could also have detailed battle plans in this space. Something too complex to type out in a message and have everyone remember it.
Granted these might not be the best ideas for battle leadership ever, but I think they could be useful.
One thing for sure though. They NEED a grid.

True, but it's not easy and you have to use up alot of bullets to get a kill. It's not very pratical to attempt those kind of shots.

Sticky bombs are the best. You sit in the bushes wait, for a tank to pass and then stick 2 bombs under it's chain...and then boom:)
I like the idea you can stick bombs.
